no kiddin, keep the TRI-Z frame for a full bore drag motor and stick you current motor in a banshee or blaster frame. production frames are way stronger than an aftermarker weld on frame plus the steering geometery(sp) is all out of whack on the aftermarket frames.

parts availability is way more abundant for a banshee or blaster than them junk aftermarket units.

I don't want to come off as a smart donkey here, and please don't take offense, but why don't don't you just sharpen your riding skills, then you wouldn't have any problems, and you'd still smoke the quads? I think tons of people here will tell you the same. I thnk that a trike can cut turns way sharper than any quad out there.

Keep the Tri-Z in tact - don't ruin a piece of History due to lack of riding skill - practice, practice, practice!!!

What size tires do you have on the Z? I know myself that it can make a big difference to the handling of the trike. I have some 22 inch balloons on my Z but once you learn to throw your wieght around on it you will be able to make it work how you want. Trikes are much more involving to ride, slow and fast it makes them alot harder to learn to ride but also more of a challenge to really go fast.

Converting the Z would be a bit stupid as it still wont function as well as a factory quad will. If i were you and had my mind set on a quad, id sell the Z here on the boards and buy a factory quad.

I totaly agree with atctim cuz when i first started riding trikes i had to be carefull in the turns but now that i can ride better i can fly through turns just as fast quads! Just keep riding it and you will get better with leaning, keep your body as low as you can in a sharp turn and learn to use the throttle to your advantage. Buy a quad if you realy want 4 wheels!

Find an old LT 250 chassis and drop your Z motor into it. Keep the Tr-Z chassis if you should ever want to swap the motor back.

You are right. The kit is about $1500, or you can watch on ebay and buy a kit with a TriZ already attached to it for about $1500. Then you get to spend a few hundred more to customize the front end so it is remotely comparable to a factory made quad of the same era. Or you can easily buy a used a used Banshee for $1500. Or for $1500 plus the value of your trike, you can easily buy a TRX250R thats already been hopped up. Conversion kits area waste of money. I love mine, but there is no way Id spend $1500 on just a kit. For $1500 it better have a trike attacked to it. My suggestion is if you really want one, watch for one already converted on ebay and elsewhere, and swap your motors and then sell your trike. Youll probably come out at $0 expense that way. A TriZ is actually a couple hundred dollars more valuable as a trike than with a $1500 conversion kit on it.

if you have $1500 to buy the kit, just keep that money sell your Z, and you'll have enough to buy a quad, if i were you id just get an extended axle or wheel spacers.

well i thank you all for commenting my thread i have realized that it is a piece of history that has to be treated well.. and forever who said that its "riding skill" im pretty sure i can run a trike around like anything else around out.... im just saying ... as an example... riding along in a local place.... *Edited**Edited* riding riding riding bring da ding ding ding and BOOM front tire in a rut *Edited**Edited* flying all over the damn place now please correct me if that is wrong or if im doing something wrong but yes .... i wont mess with the z ill leave it the way it is.... and a question since around 45 % of the people on here have zs does ANYONE know if its possible to take the factory 86 kickstart off .... *Edited* know the one that *Edited* bolt the shaft and gears to the casing and put the one that *Edited* just push the shaft thru and put the kickstart on... anyone know what im talking about if so please reply

86Tri-z270, Glad to see you've decided not to rape your Z. Yes your correct about some of the handling traits of our faithful 3wheelers, but its all part of the game.

My quad is way easier to ride than my trike, But to me the trike is waaay more valuable, and a way more rewarding thing to ride. Get that powerslide just right or nail that hairpin turn on my "widowmaker" KXT and I've got a grin that lasts a week.

But you won't get me on a MX track trying to take on quads with it. Thats what my quad is for. About the only place I would consider a Trike to equal or even better a quad (I'm not talking drag racing fellas) would be in the sand dunes. Lets face it thats their natural habitat aint it.

Of course thats just my humble opinion.
