    tri z problems. HELP!

Alright, I'm at the end of my ideas. I have a stock 86 triz 250. Starts briefly then sounds as though it is getting too much fuel (plug is wet) and dies out. I kick it 5-6 times and it backfires terribly. I have set the jets as they should be, it is getting fire, I have new fuel in it, the fuel pump seems to be working properly. The main jet is a 300. I have the float set as it should be. It did run with the main jet loose (idled and revved) but when riding and opening up, lost power. The guy I got it from said that the piston and rings were new. It has a DG after market pipe. I have set the needle to middle, high, and low to try different things. It simply will not run and I am at a lost. Any help?

Can you elaborate and describe what it sounds like that makes you think its getting too much fuel?

When I start it (after many kicks) it will run with me giving it gas for about 5-10 seconds and then dies. It is like it is going from revved up to idle but skips the idle and goes dead. It also backfires alot when I am trying to start it.

I think it is getting too much fuel becasue of the black wet plug and I it smells as though it is flooding out. Strong fuel smell. I could be totally off and it is not getting enough?

Occasionaly the key will shear on the Z and throw off your timing. Real easy to check if you have a flywheel puller. You just pull it off and look.

    You've changed the plug right?

Thats my first guess. Most carb problems do not result in backfiring or misfiring.

I have changed the plug. Someone else told me that the timing may be off if it is backfiring like it does. I will check the flywheel. If i don't have a puller, is there any other way to get it off of there?

my z did the same thing. it sheared the flywheel key. i chased that one for like 5 hours. only a flywheel puller will work. banshee pullers work perfect on them. they sell them on ebay for like 15 bucks.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...
