How are you guys breaking in your 2 strokes?

My cylinder and piston will be ready next week.
The machinist is fitting piston to cylinder, measuring ring gap and the whole enchilada. He really knows what he is doing.
I told him to order all the parts, gaskets, piston, rings and wrist pin bearing.
Lets hear how you guys breaking in your 2 strokes?

If its new piston/rings, ect I favor the heat cycle method.

Crank up, keep idle to a max of 1/4 throttle first 2-3 minutes to allow engine to heat up properly. After that rev from idle to half throttle consistently for approx 5 minutes. Shut down and allow it to completely cool down. Crank it up again, allow it to warm up, then rev from idle to 3/4 throttle for approx 5 minutes. Shut down and cool completely. Start again, allow it to warm up rev from idle to wide open for just a few minutes, 2-3 or so. Then hop on it and ride the *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* out of it

on the first tank of gas run it a little rich. run at different speeds starting slow no more than a 1/4 throttle till its warmed up good. let it cool. repete, but move up 1/4 throttle at a time. never go past 80% throttle till you've ran threw a tank of gas. and no steady speeds keep the throttle moving now and again.

I do the same basic thing that Billy listed but let it cool down for at least 5-6 hours if not overnight. Then re-torque the head and jug before running it again and repeat the process. Use of petroleum based pre-mix oil rather than synthetic is also recommended to help the rings seal quicker/properly.

I heard you are not supposed to break in under load, but then again, I have heard of your method too.

Thanks for all the replies on this subject.

This is the method that I use, just ride around soft for the first 10-15 mins then let it cool completly, and then just ride the s**** out of it.

I'm running mineral oil for the first half hour or more then letting it cool, retorque head nuts. Then draining all the gas and running it on Amsoil like you'd normally ride it.

I guess alot would depend on how "Tight" your builder is leaving the clearances. If you are unsure about break-in then you should always stick with the builders recommendations.

Yeah he said he was going to include instruction sheet for break in.
I will post his recommended break in process to share with everyone.
