How do knobbies work for dune riding?
Thinking of taking the 200s and 185s for wife and kids to cruise the dunes.
No major hill climbing, just cruising around.

On 185 or 200s knobbies actually work better than paddles. Just lower the air pressure down to like 2 or 3 lbs. Those little bikes dont have the rpm's or hp to spin them. Been there, done that.

In a lot of ways, I prefer knobbies even on my R. Smoother ride and the only time I really notice the difference in traction is on take off.

Not sure what pressure I was running in them. Not super low though. They were stock 400ex tires. You'd be amazed how well they actually do in the sand. I was drag racing and pulling wheelies with them no problems. Just the launch is the only time I could really tell the difference.
my 200s although not stock rips in the dunes even with paddles or knobbies
and its fast as a bat outta hell
I agree with. I prefer knobbies in the dunes. I run Itp holeshots at 2-2.5 psi in big dunes (Glamis, Dumont, rasor) with no trouble. I do have paddles I run though, just depends on what I'm doing. You'll be fine on your trikes with about 2 psi in the knobbies.

from experience, i think paddles work quite a bit better. but my dad perfers knobbys b/c of the smoother ride. so i guess its mostly personal preference.
Paddles make me get stuck easier than knobbies. My 250r has been to the dunes with 8 paddle haulers, sand skates, stock TRx 450r tires, 18 in turf tamers, and stock 20 in ohtsus. It liked the 18" turf tamers better than paddles. I can creep up the biggest hill there till it starts buering itself and pin it, and just start shifting. Next thing i'm 4th or 5th wide open wheeling up the hill. Hell i wheelie down the hills even. and this is with all the tires other than the paddles. You can actually turn with knobbies, sidehilling is way funner. The paddles are great for making you almost flip if your dragracing too. I say skip em'
almost flip drag racingi drag all the time w/ my 350X w/ paddles on, i havent "fliped", but then again, im not sure what you mean by flipping. riding a wheelie then flipping it over? thats wut the +4 swinger is for
