Trike conversions XR 600, Anybody ??

Well I have been taking a little vacation from the ATC's of late ,and after being at TF'06 and seeing alot of awesome conversions with trikes,I have been kicking the can on some ideas for another project. I am leaning toward a 4 stroke project and am thinking of stuffing a big XR motor into a 350X frame,{500-600 or 650}!! I know this would be a teadious project with lots of mod's to be made, and alot of inovation!! That being said,I was just wanting to know if anyone has ever done a project like that,or if anyone had some ideas on a project? My only requirements are that it has to be a 4 stroke and a Honda? Shoot some seriuos idea's this way !!!

No successful conversions like that yet. Extensive frame mods to do it! So far Billy and Jason Hall have undertook it, neither with good results.

If you want to be ahead of the game, grab up a 450 dirtbike and convert it!

I think the conversionsa are nice, I haven't really seen one done really well as an all around rider though. At least not out this way. Just drag trikes or poor handling unreliable conversions. Until I see one done well (I'm sure they're out there) I'd put the money into making an existing Honda trike the best it can be with lots of mods and accessories to make it nice! I think am xr 600 conversion would be a heavy pig of a trike. In a long travel suspension frame it might be fun in the desert though!

Yeah ,that's what I'm looking for Derrick !! I want to bust the mold and do something like that , the xr's look to be almost the same motor block, but if Billy and Jason had no sucess than there is alot more to it than I can even muster,I do like the 450 idea.

452X has a XR500 topend on his X, would that suit you? If not then go ahead and convert a XR650R, those are nice!

That would be a neat project Derrick, now I know that the Harley's and jap bikes have been doing alot of trike's nowadays, I see them alot up here actually. Now would the KLR 650,be the same type of conversion,or would it be like an enduro type? None the less I can see that I need to do some research, and the 450 would be a good one, just need to look on avalibility on motors and parts !!

I've been thinking the same as derrick. I was thinking of an old xl600r and trying for the street legal thing. It wouldn't be much of a trail rider, but I drive a lot of dirt roads and side roads, so it would be prime. A 350x front-end might suit it, and just need to find a swinger. If the 350x forks bottom out a lot, some dirtbike forks that are the same diameter but longer, may interchange on the 350x legs, to get some more length.
    Caution
Do not "POP WHEELIES" and run for any distance with the ATC. The oil capacity is relatively small and the oil will drain out of the oil pump area thus causing loss of oil pressure, resulting in costly engine damage -CLYMER

The 650! More torque! And very little maintenance. I've ridden the 450 and the 650. The 450's lighter and has a lot of power but the 650 is all raw power. The 450 is great on the track where the 650 is great everywhere, trails, woods, sand, and desert. It hits from the bottom all the way up. I have a 650 with an Edelbrock carb, and Pro Circuit pipe and K&N filter. It’s hard to keep the front end down. All the bottom end grunt anyone could use. The 650 is liquid cooled and has an aluminum frame. Tank has good lines too. Drawback: Tall motor and the bike dry is 300 lbs.

Why don't you start with an old CB750 and convert that using the 350X front and rear? Thats the one I want to build.

Man going with a CB750 would be really heavy would'nt it ? I have seen those done up as pullers before and they look like monsters! I would like to have it so I could drag, yet run trails also! The 650 is also a possibility,I am looking for a machine that could be an all around machine! You know ,say that they still produced 3-wheelers in '06,you know that they would have a 600 or at least a 500 thumper. That is the innovation that I am getting at,Not for the roads but more of a BAD ARSE 350X type versatile machine, sporty yet raceable also. I would say that a machine in the 300-350LB dry weight catigory would'nt be that bad!
Look at snowmobiles for instance,I know I am refering to peas to carrots but I had a 900CC Thunder Cat and although heavy and somewhat clumbsy, when you hit the gas and got that front end up,that was a rush.Yet it did take a toll on you after a hard ride. But that rush of raw power and torque was why I loved it so much.Yet some things are sacrificed ,along the way.

Yeah the CB wouldn't be an all around machine at all. I see what you want, the XR650 would be a great one to work with.

NOS 350X,Why is it slow? Is it the way that the machine is geared? That motor ,you would think would have lots of speed, but thanks for any info.I saw a few 450 motors that I have taken some interest in,anyone have any more suggestions!
