I was wondering what the best way to paint exhuasts was. Im planning on painting my 86 ATC 250r head pipe and was wondering what works best. Ive heard of people powdercoating their pipes but never realy heard about how well it held up.

Just spray your exhaust with some high heat paint and it should be fine. I painted all my exhausts with high heat paint and they all come out perfect and last a long time.

Before you do anything you have to make sure it is cleaned. I've heard of some folks dipping them in muriatic acid first to get all the rust and other junk off of it. Personally I've always just wire wheeled mine to get everything off then paint them with a 1200 degree BBQ paint. they hold up well if they are properly cleaned first.
yeah im gona sandblast it first. i once tried spray painting the exhuast on my sx with like 500 degree paint but i gues the pipe gets hotter than that cause it started smoking real bad and smelled horrible for a while till i blasted it back off. So i deffanitly dont want that happening agian.

That is EXACTLY what I do, too. The 1200 degree paint forms a ceramic finish when cured, just by running the engine and cooling according to directions. Cheap andOriginally Posted by chris200x

Fahrenheit. I refuse to use Celcius. Fahrenheit gives me a greater degree of accuracy.Originally Posted by crd00

Yeah same here. If you go to walmart it comes in a couple colors. I used to have black but then I switched to silver as you can see in my sig....... Make sure you sand it down good first and put 2 coats and it will last quite a whileOriginally Posted by crd00
