    Piston Blew

    1985 250R

Well, basically my piston blew and my engine seized on me. I had been riding it for like an hour. There were little pieces of metal all in the engine and they dented the head and the piston surface. I am my own mechanic and I want to know if I can just replace the piston and rings? Or do i have to replace the piston and rings and bearings? Or do i have to replace the piston and rings, bearings, wristpin, ect... I am going to start ording the parts.

Oh! Can I wash the reed valve in water? They're all nasty? Can I wash the carburator? It's got a little bit of sand in it.

    Thanks.

The carb and reed's yes you can wash with water, but make 100% sure they are dry before putting them back on. I would just use brake cleaner on the carb, but the reed's I don't know if they are plastic.....

You sure the cylinder is fine after all this???? If so then i guess the piston, rings, wristpin and you mine as well replace the bearing while your at at........
