We had 8 trike racers show up this race, one more than Memorial day. We have an offical class now! One more race this year (Labor Day), i'd love to see some more new faces there to finish out the season!
8:00 practice was MUDDY. 4 days of rain before the event made it a sloppy mess. I took out Uncle Fatso for pratice just trying to get the layout, as they reversed the direction of the track and re-routed around most of the standing water. Managed to take out another footpeg in the whoops section on the 350X. First Honda peg to fall victom to the gorilla.
TimSr, 3legg and myself decided to take advantage of the shortened track and run in the 2 stroke quad class also. Unfortunately they ran 3 wheeler right behind that class, so it was a work out.
The holeshot was wicked against the quads, as they tend to sandwich in on the 3 wheelers. I chose to run my trail tires in the first moto and it was a good thing I did. Most of the track was drying up from practice, but the starting line was untouched. A hard launch found me pinned in between a TRX and a Banshee, both wanting my line. So I pushed back into the Banshee and grabbed 4th (Thanks for the nerfs Jason!). By then we were into the mud and my trike came alive. I just leaned back and watched the quads get sucked into the mud and drag down. Meanwhile I'm skimming the top!
3legg also managed a great start and got out in I believe 2nd place. Tim was on the quad Z and holding his own in 5th, I was right behind him in 6th. I had one stand out moment in this moto where I took the inside line and blew by Tim only to over shoot the next turn and watch him motor back by. I swear I saw him laughing.
Enough of the quad stuff. First moto of the trike races started the first turn with Flyin Brian in 1st and myself in 2nd (thanks to the trail tires again). The rest of the pack was struggling thru the mud but all made it out under throttle.
In the first lap I had a very close call with a 4' tree stump in the middle of a left sweeper. Too much heat out of the corner caused me to be headed straight for it, WFO! A quick decision to turn right off the course sent my nerf sliding along the stump and bouncing the tire off it. Lesson learned, just about trashed ol Casper out on that one.
Jason Hall managed a nice pass on me in a hard right turn, cutting in on the inside. Knocking me out of 2nd. Half way thru the first moto the track was drying out nicely and my trail tires were now a disadvantage. Brian, Jason and I had developed enough lead on the rest of the pack that we were able to finish out that moto in that order. I tired 3legg had managed to move up thru the racers finishing somewhere mid pack due to a bad holeshot. Garageboy, TimSr, MyMistress, and TimJr all came in pretty much together.
The second moto had everyone excited. Alot of smack talk was happening in between motos, so we were all eager to get out there and shred. The holeshot in the second moto was nothing short of spectacular. Everyone got off to a great start with Brian, 3legg, Jason, and myself coming into the first turn 4 wide. TimSr, MyMistress, and Garageboy were breathing up our tailpipes instantly. By now the track was completely dryed up and FAST! We were all screaming thru the first chicane, practically out of control. We had gotten singled out by then with Brian in front, 3legg nipping his rear fender, Jason in 3rd, and me hot on his tail.
The first up hill took us over a hump half way up, sending the bikes airborn for a few feet then touching down and grabbing 4th gear to hit the top and soar out maybe 25ft onto the first straight. Jason was watching me and running hard to gain a lead, but I wasn't going to let that happen. We came into a HARD left turn on the brakes heavy, then dropped a couple gears and dumped the clutch coming out. The weight transfer put us both on full throttle wheelies on only the back right wheel, with spectators running! Immediately after that turn was a downhill into a right sweeper. I grabbed 3rd and then 4th gear to sit the front end down, and I can only assume that Jason did the same as we hit the top of the downhill. Shooting down a 25ft drop in 4th, rolling in on the front wheel is not something you can describe. It's an amazing feeling.

Jason barley overshot the off-camber right turn just after the downhill, and I took advantage of it squeezing by on the inside. Shortly afterwards Garageboy slid by Jason and in the battle to gain his position back they got tangled up. That was all the opening TimSr needed and he flew on by them to move up to 4th.
Meanwhile Brian and Brandon were having a feirce battle in the front. Brandon was sticking his front tire in, every opportunity he could, but couldn't execute a pass. In a last ditch effort I saw him fly HARD into the whoops section to bring him up even, unfortunately there just is only one good line thru, so all the momentum he brought in was soon taken away by the rough section.
I had fallen about 10 bike lengths from the leaders at the end of the race, and as I rolled out of the whoops to finish, I saw MyMistress stuck in the fence. Apperently on his second lap, he came charging thru the whoops and when he exited his throttle stuck wide open, sendind him wheelieing into a fence, striking a fence post (old telephone poll) and snapping it off!
That's my take on the day. Others may have more to add.
