    200X in the sand?

I have a stocker 86 200X and was wondering if it has what it takes to play in the dunes. I obviously know its not going to preform like it does on good hard dirt. I guess what im asking is it worth taking to the dunes or is it just to underpowered to play in the sand?

    Thanks
    Jake

Well some people bring 90's to the dunes and I have seen a sx there as well so I say it is worth bringing.

Ive seen Sx's and 110's in pics at the dunes. Youll be fine with the X, esp a 86!

    Yeah get some paddles........

Anyway an 86 200x should be fine. If you get a chance in the future, buy a cobra pipe. Well worth the $$$!!!

the 200X should do fine at the dunes....my dad on the 250SX does fine so you should have ne problems. throw some paddles on it, and some leggins over your air filter and you should be good to go.

I have an 83' 200x, that is completely stock, and i have no problem getting around the dunes. It makes it easy with titan fast trekkers, but the paddle tires do help alot.

You won't need paddles, a good set of knobbies will do the job just fine.

I actually prefer knobbies in the sand, better for playing around.

Sand is a trikes natural habitat. Send her home, she love you for it

I think they're talking about Michigan dunes. Not that vertical to begin with.

Runnin knobbies in the sand is a blast but not to good for climbin. If you run knobbies....run em with low pressure....like 3 or 4psi. paddles make a huge difference if your hittin some bigger dunes....some 7 or 8 paddle sand skateII's work great. the lower the profile of sidewall, the more they slide like a knobbie

200x is plenty of fun in the sand, with the knobbies all pumped up you can drift the *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* out of it, with the pressure real low you can climb small hills.

any real hills and you wont be able to go up

Somthing in the 20x11x9 range with and open tread design. Any sort of knobbie that you see standard on new sports quad nowdays, IE: yfz450, Ltr450, trx450 etc...

I've found that paddles can suck a bit of horsepower out of your machine and somthing like a 200x would probably work even better with a knobbie than a paddle.

Paddles do work great in the dunes and with the right motor you'll be climb just about anything. Just don't get sucked into the theory that unless you've got paddles you can't ride dunes.

I'd steer away from an 18x11x9, they would be a bit better for sliding but won't offer the same type of flotation on the sand than a higher profile would offer. Conversly with a 22x11x9 you'll get good flotation, particularly with a lower pressure 3-4 psi, but a bit too tall for your 200X I reckon. 20x11x9 Is a good compromise for sand and trails.

As for tires that are not OEM quad tyres, Kenda claws hook up well when they're new, ITP MXR4s holeshots are awsome, and even turf tamers will do the trick with the right pressure.

Have a look at Aussie duners last post about the new colour scheme on his 250r. There is a mock up photo of three 250r's together, Thats the type of tyre I would recommend for your 200x.

Lastly I've assumed that you have 9" rims on you scooter, I think thats on the money? Have fun in the Dunes and Trails
