yamaha 225 need expert!!

Hi I have a yamaha 225 dr 1986. Newer rings piston bored timing chain. The problem is sometimes it will not run over 3/4 throttle. Then for no reason it will start running like a raped ape for a couple weeks then back to 3/4 throttle again. Dam thing anyhow. Been through the carb a dozen times Its spotless. Cleaned coil connections and checked for loose or corroded wires. I took the spark plug boot apart today . Never seen anything like that before. Anyhow any help on this would be greatly appreciated. When it acts up----Carefully remove the gas cap--and see if it clears up. The fuel tank must be vented--check the tube on the gas cap for restrictions---

Check your fuel filter also, could have some junk in it thats not letting it get the amout of fuel it should. O yea by the way.. Welcome to the boards! Someone on here can answer any trike related question you have!

Thanks guys, took gas cap off no change took fuel line off at carb and get full line of gas. When cdi or coil go bad does it kill all spark? Would valves do this? Thanks for the help.

Hey guys , messed with the cdi box conections and has been fine since. Dont know if its realy fixed or not. Only time will tell. Craig ,I would have sold it till it started running again and now I am haveing a ball on it . Cant replace it with anything else now so I better keep it if I want to ride. Thanks all
