    350x questions

i just picked up 3 85-86 350x's. 1 complete and 2 frames and 2 complete motors and bunch of various parts, stuff has sat about 8 years,

the goal here is to make 1 good machine,

first problem is all the gas tanks are rusted out on the inside, is there a fix for this?

Look in Dennis Kirk for Kreem. That stuff works good, there are 3 things, all together you have to clean out the tank then there is this cream stuff that coats the inside.

I would go aftermarket like NOS said, Clarke makes them, I think that IMS does too, not to certain on that however.

Search ebay for POR 15. I used it on mine and it works very well.

I used muriatic acid to remove the rust (you can get it at a hardware store) and a product called Red Kote to line the tank. I personally think Kreem sucks. The tank had been kreemed when I got it. Not the best of jobs but you could tell the difference how much better Red Kote was.

    Not familiar with Por 15.

I do what says on my tanks when I get a machine redone!! The redcoat is just a precaution for the rust factor,I have never ,nor will I ever use the creme, that stuff is just nasty!! I would clean the tank with the acid ,swish around the tank ,and put some rocks in it to loosen the rust up! Now you have to neaturlize the acid with Deisel fuel or Kerosene!! You will be amazed at how clean it gets! Then apply the redkote and let it dry, that is what I would do,but I like OEM stuff myself!!!

thanks for the help, everyone. It is good to know that aftermarket makes a tank. I'm going to ry and clean my oem tanks first and see what happens, Hopefully they clean up, I like the factory stickers on them, especially the no one under 14!!!!! and the if it floods instructions

haha I just went out and looked at my tank stickers again and noticed only the 86 says anything about being 14 or older to ride, the 85 doesn't say that!!!

Guess anyone can ride the 85!!!

I've heard a lot of good about Red Kote. My buddy used Kreem in his 200X tank, and it worked for a while, but it has started to peel, so it will get redone when I get bcak. Here's a pic so you know what to look for. It's made by Damon (my first name).
