    83 250R questions

First off correct me if im wrong but i do believe that this year was air cooled. I am looking into buying one if all things fall into place. My questions are how much of a preformance difference is there between the airl cooled and newer water cooled ones? Also right now im currently riding an 86 200X, and was wondering how much more does the 250r preform? Is it worth looking into to replace the 200 or will it just be a little bit better and iw ould be better off saving money for the X?

    Thanks for you time guys

the air cooled R should run quite a bit better than your 200X. the R was air cooled until 1985, but the liquid cooled R's were quite a leap forward from the air cooled machines.

Air cooled R's were '81 - '84. In stock trim they'll run circles around the 200X. You could spend $1,500 on a 200X motor and not run with a stock '83 250R. Their reliable and will run for years between rebuilds. The suspension on the '83 R is a lot better than a 200X. I've had mine for 23 years now without any problems.

Yup. There is no doubt that a 250R 2-stroke, air cooled racing monster could kill a 200X. Go R.. you'll love it.
