Question Not sure how this works.. Making offers?

I made an offer on an item on ebay. There is a box you have to click "commit to buy" or something to that effect. Now the guy sent back a counter offer but it was more than I'm willing to pay for it. Am I now responsible to pay for this or not? Or can I just let the offer expire and be done with it?

    thanks for your help.

You can let the counter offer expire....you only commit to the price you offered
Wikipedia "All Terrain Vehicle" Definition excerpt
Other smaller or lesser known companies, such as Tiger ATV, Franks, and Cagiva, produced racing three wheelers, but in much smaller numbers. Few of these machines are known to exist today and are highly sought by collectors.

ive never heard of a counter offer ? it always says you were out bid- or reserve not met
you need you ask him whats up ? or bid again
but if you won the item and he is trying to get more out of it. no he can't do that
once the auction is over its over

Well no, It was a BUY IT NOW or MAKE BEST OFFER auction. His counter offer was only a buck or two less than the BIN?!

Oh well.. Time to move on I suppose.
