need help 225dx wiring

hey guys, i have a yamaha 225dx parts trike missing a few things. the motor turns over but there is no spark. the wiring is a total mess and a few things are missing from it. i want to try to get it running. since the wiring is such a mess, i just want to hook up the esential things to get it running but im not for sure as to what i need and what i can do without. i dont need the electric start, headight, tail light, neutral indicator, and all the other stuff like that. all i need it to do is make a spark and have some sort of a killswitch hooked up.

if you go to that link it is a wiring diagram for the 225dx. it would be really awesome if someone could quick save the diagram and open it up in paint and erase all of the wires and components i dont need. then post the picture of the modified diagram on this thread or send it to me in a private message. i know its kind of alot to do but it should only take you about 5 min. or so.

any body? also, where is the coil located? i know mines missing, but where is it supposed to be?

well if you follow the spark plug wire up to a small black thing with a ground and another wire going from it that is your coil

I have the same trike, none of my electrical works, no lights no elec start, no nuturel switch, no key switch its all cut off at the ends. But mine still runs great, all i guess you have to do is follow your plug wire to your cdi box. Check that out and see if all goods. If you still dont have spark, then follow that all they way to your coil which is under your side case, check out that and see if your coil is good. After all that you should have spark, if not then you probably missed somthing. Also did you change your spark plug? Maybe get an electric meter and test everything.

Look under the gas tank, yamaha likes to hide them there, also you will find your cdi...


P.s rewiring isn't that hard, i had fun redoing mine, added a few extras in the process, such as a backup light that kicks in when i put it in reverse, hand warmers. had a horn at one time (but water made short work of it)...But if you want to go to the basics, your should only have 3 wires in the end, two for kill switch and one for the cdi (one or two for the cdi, can't remember) ..


P.S.S when your get this wiring figured out , from the engine to the cdi and then to the coil and you still don't have any spark, i'm saying bad CDI or coil

um... what do you mean by that lol? which three wires and where do i hook them up?

Coil from a car. Uhh no your local yamaha dealer should have it but they have to order it. I know there are a few people parting outs 225's on here and im sure one of them has a working one for cheap.

ok. do you think i can borrow the coil from my honda 200s just to see if i can get it going?

so does anybody know if i can use my honda 200s coil on my 225 yamaha to see if i can get it running?

You will beable to hook it up. But im not sure if the volatge for the spark is the same so it might not run right. Post an add in the classifieds here, and im sure you will have a repsonse by tommrow morning. For cheap 2. probably like 15$/

ok. i want to see if the motor will even run before i start buying stuff for it though. does anybody know if it can possibly damage my 200s coil if i try to use it? oh, and can you start a 225dx without a battery or with a completely dead battery?
