    250sx front wheel stuck!?

found this picture from a previous post but this is what mine should look like....

but I cant get the center axle bolt to unscrew... I've massaged it with a and wd40 but it still wont loosen up. I have two tools left in my arsenal that I know of... impact wrench or torch, or both...

    any suggestions?

Also, the big castle nut on the rear axle is stuck too - Does that need to come off to access the drum or is it just the two smaller phillips head screws?

I'm kinda anxious to get my new tires, brakes and bearings put on there but of course these old parts don't want to come off for me without a fight.

    Thanks

Hit it with your torch man

Also, hit it with some PB blaster, let it sit and it should be nice to you.

    good luck

ok for the rear drum, take off the right tire, take off the big nut on the axel (castle nut I guees is what its called) and then just hit the outside with a rubber to loosen up the drum and pull it off. The two phillips heads hold the hub to the drum, and its not neccesary to remove the bolts from the drum.

As for the axel, put a wrench or whatever you have and put some more leverage on it, get a bigger breaker bar or put another wrench onto the wrench holding the onto the axel. If all else fails torch it and while hot unscrew. Seals and bearings might be shot after this though

tried a 6 foot pipe on a craftsman breaker bar while tapping it with a ... I'm surprised the axle bolt didn't either break loose or just plain break. I guess I'll pickup some gas for the torch..

as for the back drum, it is the castle nut that is stuck. pulled the cotter pin and no budging it. although I haven't tried the pole on it yet, just a breaker bar.

I've had to lay the machine on its side{shut fuel off first } and get some good penetrating oil/spray like Krol oil and fill that fr hub up around the shaft and bearings with it and let it sit over night and then you should be able to back it right out. works for me several times, becareful with too much extra leverage when trying to turn it out with a long pipe, definetly don't want to break it off and still have part of the shaft still in the hub

I have had to cut that axle off and machine the threads out of the fork leg. I spent hours trying to and finally removing that dam thread.

I would try this one first, seems most acruate. Having it under oil like that well deeply penetrate it. Its worth a shot and all you have to do is wait. Heat always helps, somtime i use brake fluid and a cheap 20$ plumbers tourch from home depot (benzOmatic).

Man, now I know what you're talking about! I read this post a couple days ago, and thought it was odd that the front axle should be so hard to get to. I just put a new tire on my 200s a couple weeks ago and that bolt came out no problem. Last night I decided to do the front brakes on my SX. Big problem. First I broke a 3/8" ratchet. Then I put a 17mm impact socket with 1/2" breaker bar on it and stood on it. Nothing. Tried the impact wrench....nothing. Finally I heated the bottom of the left fork with a mapp torch for about 2 minutes and stood on the breaker bar again, and it moved. It screamed and complained most of the way out too.

Does anybody know what to use to prevent this from happening in the future? Can I use standard anti-seize on the threads and the shaft?

I had a big red one that was horrible too. We took off the forks totally and removed the rim, tire and hub. Then I ran over the fork with my F250 diesel. Then I put a 6' long cheeter bar on it and with 2 people pulling it, we finally broke it loose. Either it would break loose or we were going to break something. After that, we sanded the thread area and cleaned it nicely. Then put some good thick lube in there.
