no one has ever put one of these on?
I was wondering the same thing...somewhere easily visible but still reading at the most crutial temp area...Id imagine where the lines come out of the cylinder but its pretty tight around there. ???

where are all of the r guys on this one?
I have mine afrter the waterpump, about 2" up.Remember it(the temp) will drop quickly after you turn it off,but trying to read it while riding, to get a true reading,is hard to do.Mine drops about 20-30 degrees in a matter of 2 seconds, after i stop or turn off.Im not real sure of what temps are too hot,but mine never really gets over 210,and Ill shut it down over 220.Anyone know how hot is too hot?

well water boils at 212...so the boiling point of the 50/50 mix is higher than that.
i have no idea on an overheating temperature.
i was looking into one of those esr ones...

on the hose comeing out of the head after the coolant has been through the head would be the ideal place.
i dont think it would be very easy to install or to read or install in that spot. any other suggestionsOriginally Posted by bryan raffa
i guess the your outer hose would be the only place you could
I have the esr temp gauge om my R in the crossover hose between the two radiators. I look down thru the left shroud when stopped or idling around. it is about the only place you can see it with a clear view and not interfering with something. usually runs between 160-180
I always wanted to install one but can't really see the benefit. The only time I can see using it is at warm up time. When I ride probobly one of the last things I'm thinking of is the water temp. If you have a cooling system failure while riding your engine is toast. Alot of good the temp. guage does you then. The hot setup in my opinion would be to install a analog thermocouple and have a temp guage mounted on your bars with a programable led over temp indicator. If you don't like a bulky guage mounted on your bars then a programable led would do.
But really how many cooling system failures have you had? What can go wrong? Forgot to tighten the hose clamp? DUH. I don't think your going to blow a hose. And if you do steam will probobly come of the pipe. Radiators go bad-leaking. Impeller stuck.

got sand?
There is no good place on an R to mount them.
You need to mount it where the cool water GOES IN to water pump or outlet that GOES INTO CYLINDER to get an accurate reading what water temp is like.
Just buy some stick on temp strips and put them on radiator tanks and the cylinder jacket.
