    Reving at idle questions...

I just finished up with the swingarm and axle bearings. I added the supertrapp, K&N (already there actually) and rejetted the carb from a 130 to a 132.5. Now it doesn't start as easily as it used to but that's not really the problem. It's revving up and down when it sits at idle??? It also backfires a bit after hitting the gas hard and letting off. But other than that it runs really strong. Alot better than before. Any ideas what I need to do. Here's a couple vids of my son riding it...

It's revving by itself? Check for an air leak.

OK no airleak around the intake or carb. But I do not remember seeing a header gasket when I took the old pipe off and put the new one on. Can this be the problem?

Well instead of moving the clip I put a bigger jet in to compensate for the pipe and filter..... Anyone else have an idea? I'm guessing if they show it IT should be there?

An exhaust leak right at the head can cause some weirdness. Get a new one of those rings. If it's anything like a 200x, it's a soft metal that crushes to make a good seal when you tighten up the header.

did you change the pilot jet? sounds like you need a bigger pilot jet. that will help in starting, and should cure the erattic idling.

    Question

Pilot jet? what's that? LOL.. I'm not to up to date on my carb terminology... But I just changed the big jet in the carb. (the one right smack dab in the middle of the carb.)
In the manual it says there is a main jet and a slow jet.. I increased the main jet. (looks like the top of a flathead screw with a hole in the center)

Will I hurt anything without that copper gasket in there? I torqued the nuts down so the header is snug against the cylinder...

OH I should add I have to keep adjusting the idle everytime I stop. It fluxuates (sp?) up and down while in neutral.

slow and pilot are the same thing. Also known as the "tiny one" . Yeah copper will work Chris, we used aluminum foil wraped into a cigarette lookin dealy and put that on as our gasket on the quadsport

    Plug chops.....

I cannot really get this POS camera to focus in on the tip of the plug. This is a brand new plug but I'm not sure if I got the "tecnique" down right. I got it up to 3rd gear as quick as possible (not enough room) and WOT then turned the key.

I'm not sure which part of the tip I'm supposed to be looking at though. Half the little arm is black and white. Half the ceremic around the electrode is black and white.

So my question is is it running lean OR is it this way because it was a brand new plug and I did not do the plug chop correctly?

sorry for the quality of the pics but I cannot get the camera to focus properly. Oh, btw this is with the next bigger size main jet still in there...

Check your throttle cable. It may be binding up somewhere. Lube it up while you're at it.

Get the exhaust gasket. It should be easily available and only a few bucks.

The plug looks a little lean but it's very hard to tell on a computer screen. My colors might be off a little bit here at work.
