Sea-Foam Issue????

Ok, I've got an '83 200e big red that I finally got running (thanks to Tyler54). It ran a bit rough when idleing so I took some advice and added some Sea-Foam to see if that would help until I got the chance to tear the carb apart and give it a good cleaning. Things went good for a bit but I never really saw the "big cloud" of smoke that I thought I was going to. So, I added a bit more and things still were fine for a few rides. Now I started her up yesterday when it was about 1/4 tank full and it smokes like a campfire and dies out when I get on the throttle. Plus it idles super fast with the choke off. Did I add too much and now its trying to burn thru it?? Today I filled it up to full with fresh gas. Should I keep running it for a while to try and burn thru it??? Thanks guys........

I went out and adjusted the idle on the carb and now it seems to idle better with no choke, but it still bogs down and wants to die when i get on the throttle. Don't know where this came from. I just had it out on the weekend and it seemed to run ok. It has been a little sluggish on the low end for a while. I figured it was just the carb, but now I can't even run it since it dies as soon as I give it throttle.....

sea faom will do that if u run too much trust me lol just let it idle a while

Does it make it smoke excessively too? Im sure I did the same thing, I added maybe 4 oz to 1/2 gal of gas in my 70. had a stripped plug hole and had to take the head off after I got a couple of chip under the valve, I start it up and its smoking real bad. I didnt touch the cyl. or piston. only thing I can think of is I added a little/lot of seafoam before the sparkplug problem. Jim

Thanks for the input. It didn't smoke prior to this and it isn't using any oil right now, just alot of white-gray smoke. I've checked the oil level since its been idleing and it seems ok. Maybe I'll just let it idle for a while and see what happens. Good thing you're not my neighbors!!!! I just can't figure why it started all of a sudden???

You added too much sea-foam. You should add about one ounce per gallon of gas. It will settle out of the gas and sink to the bottom of the tank if it sits for a while. Dont worry about the smoke, it will go away, if you want you can delute it to lesson the cloud of smoke, just dont delute it to much or you wont benefit from it, also change your spark plug when you finally burn through the rest of it, or atleast clean it off. You can use the rest of the can to clean the bottom of the engine before an oil change, it will make the inside of your engine sparkle, well maybe not sparkle but it will clean it well. Just dont run it hard while the foam is in the oil, and change the oil after about an hour of running it with the foam in. You will be amazed at all the crap that will come out when you change the oil.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just let her idle till she's clean and change the oil and see how that goes. Might take a while but hunting season hasn't started yet so I'll suffer and take it easy until then.......

sorry for hijacking the post, but I did like said above, put in too much. I drained the tank and put fresh gas in it. smoking much much less. at least I know i didn't mess up working on it. Jim

You dont have to change the oil unless you put the foam in it. After you add gas you can ride it like normal if it doesnt choke down. You dont want to let any air cooled motor sit and idle for very long, no air flow means no cooling and that is not good.

first of all what color smoke was it, and second clean the carb, if you already did, do it again.

you can set a fan by the atc and run it forever at idle . I do this all the time, just so some air moves over the engine.
