    tightening timing chain.

    I know I have to take the top bolt out but on the crank but after I loosen that do I role the wheeler forward or what do I do to tighten it?

    depends on the timing adjuster? is it adjustable?
    200x doesn't adjust,you just bolt in a new tensioner

    Jason32, the 200x cam chain tension is adjustable.

    Toopoortorideon4, depends on what machine you have...but if it's a Honda 200 like 200m/e/es/x/s then you loosen the 14mm bolt under the rubber cap behind your cylinder on the top of the left side crankcase. Loosen it while the engine is on at idle and it will self adjust, loosen it about one turn, then tighten it back down...done. The 6mm bolt going through the 14mm bolt is for when you are rebuilding your motor. Once removed it allows you to put a screwdriver in there to push the tensioner arm down to allow slack in the cam chain to make it easier to get the chain on the cam sprocket. If you don't understand what I'm talking about let me know and I'll throw a bikebandit diagram up so you can see what I mean.

    i hear a slapping in there i cant figure this bike out it will idol when cold but once it gets hot or warm it wont idol. it will run all day long but it wont idol.

    you dont know that for sher im not pulling that apart til i rebuild it. the other guys said to check the valve clearance.

    i asked my uncle about that, he said it most likely could be that. he asked about all the other things we did. your supose to check the valves every couple of months, i know that is hasn't been checked in 23 years.

    you dont pull the motor apart to adjust valves!!!!! MAybe it has to do with riding WOT most of the time when you go riding.

    It has done it since i got it. What do you mean WOT all the time? Will I have to do anything with the springs?

    the motor i think has to be at TDC they have to have free play, you have to insert a flat feeler gauge betwwen the rocker arm pad and camshaft lobe, there should be a slight resitence, if it needs to be adjusted. you turn the adjuster in or out to adjust the clearence. then tighten the lock nut down, check to make sure it hasn't moved. clearence is 0.003 for intake and exhaust.

    Trikes4life is correct, you leave the motor in the trike, just take you fuel tank off to access the valve caps. His explanation on how to adjust the valves is correct as well, but for first timers it may be a little vague, do a search on here, you'll find some really detailed write ups and this subject. I used to ask the same questions myself and got a lot of great info that is still on these boards.

    I did what you said about the timing chain it didnt do anything i still hear slapping. any more suggestions?

    Valves sounds like your problem. It's not hard to do, download the Honda manual from this site.

    Jason32 you need to look in the Honda service manual. Loosening that 14mm bolt allows the tension in that little spring to press the metal piece that is connected to it upwards which shifts the arched hard-rubberized tensioner, thus tightening your cam chain. If you're in the middle of a rebuild now, give it a try and then you'll realize how it works, I recently rebuilt an entire 200x motor myself. Loosen the 14mm bolt, take the 6mm bolt off, put a screwdriver or some rod down in there and press the arm down and tighten the 14mm bolt while holding the arm down with the screwdriver. Pull the screwdriver out and with your left crankcase cover off (so you can see it) loosen the 14mm bolt, turn the crankshaft one time around using the bolt on the flywheel and you'll see with your own eyes how it works, it'll tighten your cam chain up by shifting that arched piece.

    the tensioner rod moves free up and down unless you tighten the 14mm bolt up too much,thats why you have to 'crack it loose'
    so - it is self adjusting,unless its too tight
