I am either building a 500r or a 250r, most likily it will be a cr500 conversion sense I cant find any decently cheap 'good' 250r engines, and I still want to do it.

    [Stage One]
Gather all the parts to make a rolling chassis, everything but the intake, engine, cdi's, and exaust.

    [Stage two]
If doing 250r.. buy the engine, intake, and everything else.
If doing 500r.. buy the engine and uhh well same thing.

    [Stage three] (500r)
Fit the cr500 engine into place by expanding the frame a few inches, and adding more length where need. Place motor mounts, gusset frame if needed, fit exaust, ect. ect.

    [Stage four]
Sand blast everything down, every peice of metal on the trike and have it custom painted (orange and cherry red). Polish engine cases / other parts.

    [Stage five]
Port, polish, bore and basicly finalize the engine to peak perfomance. Upgrade suspension if possible, along with other upgrades.

 WOW!! Hope you can type faster than me!! Would of probably taken me 4hrs.+ to write all that. Never built a trike from scratch, but looks to me like you got a damn good start! Only thing I see missing is a         "STARTING DATE!! Get after it, keep us posted!

Yes it should be a challenge, but should help me learn alot. By now, I have a complete rolling chassis for under $400. So even if I have to dish out $1000 for a cr500 engine, it will still be under what most complete 250r's cost, and an ass load faster.

    Well, eventualy.

Im a pretty big guy, at 6'2 200 lbs.. so this should sattisfy my needs for some time atleast. My next project will be some sort of buggy for when I feel like rolling.

I have done one of these conversions, you will not have to stretch the frame at all. The CR motor fits pretty well, the kicker is the toughest part. Also getting the exhaust spout low enough to fit the pipe over it can be a bit difficult too. I think a few guys who have done them used a CR500 pipe with some success. Good Luck, it is a fairly labor intensive project.

Being in the middle of a "From nothing to something" project with my 500X I can probably help a little. First things first...get real familar with your local hardware store because I can guaruntee you will be going there very frequently to get misc. nuts and bolts. Unless you want to run to your local dealer and pay $2-3 bucks for each bolt you need, and then have to wait for them to order them...Also do not forget all of the rubber bushings, gromets, and peices you will need for your frame. Like where the tank sits, on the back of the frame where the seat sits in, ect ect.

Also, I don't see a kill/light switch for the handle bars, Thumb throttle, throttle cable, clutch lever, cutch cable, misc fuel lines to go from your tank to the carb, fuel petcock (If its not on your tank), as JohnR said also you'll need an exhaust, springs to hold your exhaust on to the motor, Don't forget the master cylinders for your front and rear brakes, You'll also need a rear brake lever along with the linkage, You also need front and rear fenders (If your going to use them), If you do a 500 conversion the radiator hoses you have probably won't work so you'll need some of those, Airfilter to go in your airbox, Front axel...Theres probably more but thats about all I can think of now. It's probably a good idea to just surf partsfish or bikebandit everynight and write down stuff you think you'll need.

I have a CR 500 motor that I could let go. It needs crank bearings as their is play in them. It runs strong though.

I can't imagine a 500R 2 stroke motor being "fun" to ride? But to each his own, good luck it'll be bad!

Service Honda has Trx250r motors BRAND NEW for $2799.00, if you want one. I believe it would fit with no modification at all. However, that is a little steep.
