Ski-Doo MXZ 583 buildup!
Anybody here ever owned a 583 Skidoo? How are they? I'll be getting another one in a week or two, and I'll try to cobble a runner out of two junk sleds. Anyone have advice on what to add?

if you gat a good clutch set up with a track studded up properly and a engine shim kit these little torque motors come to life! Have fun. they are a good motor for sure.

WTF is an engine shim kit?

A engine shim kit{or cyl. shim kit} is when you take off your cylinders and remove the stock base gasket and replace it with a thicker {.020 - .030 thicker} and have both heads shaved or cut to match then this changes your port timing of your engine which in return if all is done to specs for that engine application will increase HP alot like 10- 20% or more! You definetly want to get ahold of a ski-doo shop and they can tell the exact specs . this should only cost you a couple bills if you do the installing of the parts.

Oh. I don't really wanna do that.

well, the best bet would be to get a good clutch set-up like from goodwin or cudney's , gear it down a tooth or two and you will have an nice little arm stretching sled for short distances like 600- 800 feet. Pullllls hard!

Well, here's the deal: I got a pullstart and pipe setup for my 583 yesterday, and promptly tested the compression. Something tells me Isaac's tester is a bit off, as it read 150 psi. LOL. Then we tested his REV 600 Renegade and read 150 too... so in reality I have about 125... but still, I figured that it would be a dog or something and it's frickin clean. Anyhow, now I need to get some ski's and fix my busted-ass rear suspension, put on my studded XLT track and RIP IT UP this winter.
