Question R coolant overflowing but why???

    Ok here's the deal.......

The radiator is completly filled, then it spills into the overflow. It dosn't come out of the overflow idleing, but as soon as you give it gas it's spewing out.... Obviously this drians the radiator. I only make a run or two up my driveway, maybe give it a shot of throttle in 4th, then it needs to be re-filled......

So my question is, what gives???? Why is it overflowing crazy like this???? I'm lost on this one......

its running real hot or the radiator cap is bad. I would replace the radiator cap first.

Could be a blown head gasket. With a blown gasket, your cylinder preasurizes the radiator, pushing fluid out the resevoir.

Is it smoking more then usual?

Did you do the retorquing procedure after the first time the motor cooled down?

I am having the same problem with my Tri-z. I just had the head machined and a new bore. More than likely it's the head gasket. You can swap rad caps first, but if it's coming out when you give it throttle, then it's the head gasket. And yes, like BigGreen says, torque the head properly also.

I'd be willing to bet its a head gasket. And someone else more informed then me correct me if I'm wrong, but dont the big bore cylinders require a different head gasket from stock?

I have gone through that with my Z and ended up needing a new head gasket.

yes it does use a different head gasket. These 72mm resleeves of the stock cylinders are well known for this sort of issue, as there is not much room between the water jacket and the combustion chamber. I ran one of these and had the same problems, so I ditched it and went back to a well ported 66mm cylinder.
