    200e resto coming along!

i got a 200e from my dad, not running, yellow, 83, for free, and i thought i might as well rebuild it to have another trike to ride on, or to have a powerhorse trike. i got it a couple weeks ago, and started tearing it apart. well, first thing, i go and try to take the engine out of the frame. well, then i see that the whole rear end had to come out! grr! so a day later, i get the engine out, and take the head and cylinder out. well lookee what i found! rust pits in the cylinder. i find out that the trike had been sitting under the eve of my dad's house for 2 years, when it died. so i put the engine aside until i can find all the parts, and get a little more dough. then i remember that the front fork seals were shot, and leaking oil. so i take the triple tee and forks off the frame. then i take the boots off and see that the seals are covered with rust. i wd-40 and carb clean it all off, then take the retainers out. to get the forks apart, i had to put them in a vice and use a sledge because the seals had swollen. a week later, my seals come in. i get the oil, and fill my shocks up. one q, are the seals supposed to be VERY tight? i had to use 2 pipes to pound those suckers down! i dont think that they are coming loose. when i am about to put the front end on, i am going to grease the bearings, but there is no zerk! to get that darn bolt out, i used a mual, and a lot of pounding. i found that all the metal pieces in the axel had rusted together. i said forget it, and i greased up the bearings, and slapped it all together after fixing the brakes up good.when i had the raer end off, i thought i would look at the rear brake. well, all the screws were so darn tight that i had to use some vice grips, and almost destroy the screw. the brakes were frozen solid, the rotor was stuck, and the pads were a nightmare. with some wd-40, i got it all apart, and use some steel wool to clean it up good. i got it all back together in the same night, and look for my next thing to fix....the foot brake. it was also frozen solid. i started pounding on it, then it broke off. i se that it had already been rewelded from previous rollovers and crashes. still tho, i have to fix the handle bars which are kinked. when trying to fix the curly brake handles, the rear one snapped...grr. so far, i have bought fork seals, fork oil... and thats it in a couple days, i will buy a manual :-D , oil filters, fuel filters, gasket set, piston and rings, and a few other things. i will keep you all updated daily, and post some pics once i get a digi cam to use. i hope all of the other restorations go easier than mine! haha

it could be a 84, but my dad said that it is most likely a 83. on the model # it says ytm-200e. btw, the frame number is 24w-005294 there is another one of these "mystery machines" around somewhere where i live, but i haven't tracked it down yet.
