    Tri-z 5 or 6 speed?

I'm looking for a Tri-Z and need some basic info.
Is it true that the '85 has a 5-speed and the '86 has a 6 speed?

Other than that, what else is differant?

    Thanks,

Yes, the 85 is 5 speed and the 86 is 6 speed.

    A few other differences:

85 was offered in two color schemes: black & red plastic with silver rims and yellow and black plastic with gold rims.

86 was offered in white & red plastic with gold rims.

The 86 had bigger forks than the 85.
The 86 had a smaller diameter front tire (23x12) than the 85 (25x12).
The 86 I believe has 9 inch rear rims and lower profile tires than the 85, which came with 8" rear rims and 22" tires.

These are some of the major differences. The main thing is the 86 had bigger forks and a 6 speed tranny. The 86 was definately improved upon over the 85.

    Good luck in yer quest!

    Thanks!

My riding buddy just called me and said his neighbor has a White and Red one for sale for about $1000. He didn't know what year it was, but the colors sound like it's a '86.

I just sold my 2000 400EX and I would love to get a 3-wheeler. How is the power on the Tri-Z?

A Tri-Z will blow away a stock 400EX no problem. A strong Tri-Z will blow away a CRaptor too. I did it with my 86 no prob.
