    Tech Questions

    1985 250r

    1. Oil Mix, what is correct- the Honda store gave me 50:1 amsoil dominator.

    2. Trans oil, what is correct- the clymer says 10w-40 the same Honda store gave me Pro-Honda HP Trans oil 80w/85w.

    3. What type of plug do you like?-I bought the NGK that is recommended in the clymer. When is it appropirate to use the cold weather plug- what temp?

    4. Can I use header wrap tape on the exhaust pipe?

    5. Where can I buy a diagnostic portable tachometer for this two stroke?

    I do 32:1 castor 927 in mine works buitifull, I use bel ray tans fluid, works great, ngk plug the best, no header wrap, dont think that wil help you in any way, dont know anything about a tach,

    1- I haven't tried it, but I'm sure this is a great oil, It's amsoil synthetic! I don't know about the 50:1, I would tried it at 45:1 to be sure... After you can see and adjust the mix.

    2- I think that 80w/85w is way too thick. According to the atc250r service manual: 10w40 = 18° to over 110°. 20w40-20w50 = 35° to over 130°. 10w30 = 18° to 88°. Finally SAE 5w = less than -10° to 50°.

    3- According to the service manual= NGK BR9ES or Champion RN2C for hot weather and BR8ES or RN3C for cold weather. (I use NGK).

    4- Don't know, never used it.

    5- Don't know...

    i would go for the header wrap . if nothing else it'll keep your leg cool.
