I would wire in a 240v plug and use a 4800w construction heater. My garage is 18' x 25' and 12' high, it will heat the place from -20 to +20 in about 30 mins. Them I have the setting cranked almost all the way down once it reaches temperature.

I keep a household fan blowing on the back at all times, because when the unit shuts off, the fan keeps circulating the heat from the coil (which is still hot)

Electric is by far the cheapest, safest, most efficient heat (also no maintenence). I figured out to run my 4800w heater for 1 hour, it costs 25 cents @ 6 cents/kw (if i remember right)

Insulate your garage well, and seal it all up with a 6mil VDR. It pays off in the end.

electric will empty your pocket around here. i believe that wood and coal is the cheapest. it just depends on how much work you want to put out to save a few dollars.

I heat my house with a Whitfield pellet stove. It is nice because it is controled by a themostat. I can heat my home all winter for under $300.00

I have a Whitfield pellet stove also. How much are pellets there? This winter they went up to $4.50 a bag at that price I wasn't even using it but they have gotten cheaper the last month or so. Pellets stoves are so easy compared to a wood stove or fireplace.
I had the RIGHT to remain silent, I didn't have the ability!

I bought the last two tons and $3.50 a bag. I found a place that discounts when you buy in bulk. Home Depot and Lowe's do not discount for bulk.

Go corn!!! plus you will have an ample supply of deer feed. You can use the excuse that you need more corn for heat and not have to hear about how much you spend on them %@$# deer all the time.

I have a wood stove in my garage and its cast. They take a little time to heat up but they stay hot for a longer time than a steel stove. My garage is 24x36. Just make sure you install a good chimney. I sell insurance and our company has no problem with woodstoves. Look us up Farm Family Insurance

i found some good stuff here http://www.hearth.com/ as a matter of fact i built my chimney according to the specks they have listed for an indoor coal stove . it should be the same for wood , except maybe the type of chimney , clearances and stuff? but that was living space , might be a little diff for a garage ,,, need to check

yep , what was said there . its all economics , constant burn and temp or an occasional warm-up ??wood is the fastest heat up probably .. for a stove and chimney , I burn coal in my house and love it .. around april , early may i am sick of it .. but... saved me cash for projects.. house or 3 wheel type ..LOL
