New to the board
I have a 86 200s and I am trying to fix the front tire because it is leaking. However I cant get the front axle out. I took the cap off of the side opposite the brakes and put a ratchet on the end of the axle. It wont budge, tryed breaker bar, impact wrench, and as much heat as I dared still wont budge. Am I doing something wrong, the axle is just threaded onto the bottom of the shock right? How do you get it out when it wont budge, thanks for any help.

I had to weld a socket on and hit it with the impact gun for 5 minutes to get the axle out of my buddies 200S but his was rusted solid.
Heat it then throw cold water on it right away, then repeat that a few times then spray some quality penetrating oil on and let it sit for a while then try it with the impact gun again. If not..then do what I did...weld an old socket on it and hit it with the impact gun.

I've got a parts 200S that the axle is seized in. We hit it with 125 psi, no luck. 1/2" drive rachet and 2ft breaker bar, no luck. Welding a socket on it may be the best way, and a 4ft breaker bar. Something will have to give.

Try about a 5 foot piece of pipe as a breaker bar.

thanks for the advice, guess i will get a breaker bar, long pipe and hope for the best. O yeah and if by some chance i do get the axle out, does anyone have a good way of getting the tire off the rim other than taking it to the tire shop. I can never seem to break the bead despite several attempts with bars and large tires. Another question is how much heat can I put on the shock housing before I ruin something. Thanks

If you need to get it off just get a sawzall and cut it off if you dont need it. I had to do that to one of my old 4x4s.

make sure you take the 4 nuts that hold that little rectangularish piece onto the fork clamping the axle in place....had a huge fight with my 200s and i forgot to take that off first.

Try a more powerful impact if you can. PB blaster, impact , and/or heat is all you can do. You can always take it to a mechanic or machine shop and pay them to remove it. I don't imagine it would cost too much either.

like DeePa said, that rectangle piece on the opposite shock, with the 4 nuts... forgot all about it when i took my wheel off, you'd be surprised how much it makes a difference

What I did with my 84 200s is take the 4bolt cap off, then rotate the other fork back.
This gave me room to take the rim off the hub (i don't know if rotating the fork is a good idea or not but when I put mine back together it still seemed to work fine), if you only need access to the rim/tire and don't need to get to the brakes/hub it should work for you.
As for breaking the beed, I put a 2x4 up against the beed, as close as I could get to the rim, and then slowly drove up the board until it popped, I did have about 2psi in the tire at the time (it seamed that with the tire completely flat the sidewall didn't have enough strength and the 2x4 just slid down). I did have to partialy set the beed (not all the way over the "hump") then turn the tire over to do the other side. Prepare to crack the 2x4 though, make sure it's an old one you don't care about.
