Thanks guys for helping me figure what size tire is supposed to be on the 85 Tecate. Now I am looking for a polished 10" wheel. Does anyone know who makes one for the Tecate? If so, do you know the correct offsets, etc? Thanks.
Did you ever get a wheel? I need a wheel for a 85' and was curious of what offset was correct. I had a 3+5 steel aftermarket wheel on my 84' hub and it needed shimming. I read somewhere that the stock offset was 3+5.5, then I read somewhere else it was 3+6... I was going to try a stock mojave rear wheel, but I want something with a lil more bling. Anybody running an aftermarket wheel that is centered?
I dont have a complete 85' front end yet. I have the hub, and the forks. It will be a lil bit before I can mock it up, as I still need bearings and spacers. I think I have the mojave fronts somewhere, I will looks for them.
If you want a narrower front wheel you can use a front wheel off of a banshee. I have one for mine and it centers up nice. Other than that, thats all I got.
According to the referencing section of a catalog I have, The Mojave front wheel has a 3.5+2 offset and the banshee has 2+3.5. It looks as if the mojave wheel would need to be bolted up backwards. I am wanting a 8 or 9" wide wheel with the correct offset.
The offset is differerent or else they would list a front wheel for the 84'. If I had a stock one handy I would measure it. All I know is the wheel I had on mine was a 3+5 and I had to shim it almost 1/2" to get it aligned. The Douglas wheel fitment guide says that the stock offset is 3+5.5, and they sell a 3+6(10x9) as a replacement. The douglas guide says that a mojave rear is 3+5.5, that is why I kept it around. I have not tried it out yet though.
I am sure the stock mojaves fronts have a negative offset(3.5+2). The mojave's are 155mm. On a 156mm wheel the holes will need to be enlarged slightly to fit. The ITP wheel guide isn't accurate on kawasaki wheels.. I have some stock mojave fronts an they are 5.5" wide, the rears ar 8.5". My old '84 kxt wheels are 3+5.5, I just measured them. I also measured the wheel I had on the front of my '84, and it was in fact a 3+5. It required shimming.
I am sure that a skinny wheel can be made to work, but shimming will be nescessary. Think about it. 3+5.5, 2+4.5, 1+3.5, etc...and remember you can only shim one way...
