    86 250r gear oil

I just got the r a little while ago so I'm trying to learn whats best to use for gear oil, but I'm a little confused as to what weight oil to go with. I like the maxima lubricants or is there something better? Can someone guide me to a good synthetic oil to use and what weight to go with..thanks!
If it matters the bike is not stock, some of the mods are pipe, silencer,Reeds,K&N filter,36mm carb, hotrod crank and 30over piston.

I'd run either ATF Type F, or Mobil 1 5w30

Synthetic will make your clutch slip bad. Don't use it.

I have to disagree. I've run Mobil 1 synthetic in my R trannies when I can't find any ATF Type F since 1996. Drag alcohol big bore motors to stock bore trail ride motors, its a great oil and the clutch does not slip. It works great!

Yep and acutally the best. All tranny fluid is motor oil with a LOT of detergent in it.
    It's good stuff.

if you ever have an opportunity to see a car or truck automatic transmission taken apart, you will be very surprised at how much it looks like an ATV wet clutch.
