    Eklutna Lake, Alaska

Went riding up here a few weeks ago. Eklutna Lake is about 45 minutes north of Anchorage and serves as the fresh water resivior. The trail runs down the north side of the lake for about 13 miles then into the river valley. After a few miles of hiking the Eklutna Glacier can be reached; I didn't get any good pictures becuase it was too dark out. The glacial canyon was impressive; both sides are nearly vertical rock for 4-5000 feet with a massive blue glacier at the end. There are several waterfalls that run from over the top edges of the cliffs. And yes, a Fatcat can do smoky burnouts!

I don't have any more pics from that ride; here is the website for the Eklutna Lake area though; http://www.dnr.state.ak.us/parks/uni...ch/eklutna.htm

That site should give a good idea of the scenery and terrain.

Here's a pic from earlier this summer. This dam used to be part of a power station on the Ekluna river, it sits a few miles south of Eklutna Lake. It is no longer used. The drop from the edge is about 80 feet; note the curved edge where the water flows over, it is slippery becuase of the algea growth - don't get too close!
