Help With Timing Chain 185 S

Does anybody know how to tighten the timing chain on a 1983 Honda 185? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

behind your cylinder on the left side is a rubber cap remove that and while the motor is running loosen the bolt under the ruber cap then tighten the bolt a second later and *Edited**Edited* done

There are 2 bolts under that rubber cap.. the top one don't to jack.. don't worry bout it.. but the bottom one is the adjustment..

Like TRR said.. with motor running.. and engine fully warmed up ( for for a ride to warm it up to operating temp ) ... Don't go ape *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* on that bolt.. just snug it..

Are you sure it needs it tho.. don't mess with it if you don't have to.. describe the reason you plan to do this first in case..

I put a new top end on it, chain i noticed was loose when i put it back together. Ive tightened them on atc 90/110 before but noticed this was a different style.

new chain with out a new tensioner?
get a new tensioner as well youll be happier

If your cam chain won't tighten enough, you can take out the small top bolt, loosen the bigger nut, insert the threaded end of a bicycle spoke and turn and pull up till the chain is tight., then tighten the big nut and replace the small bolt. Do this with the engine not running and the motor at top dead centre. This way you get some more life out of your chain and your'e not relying on the weak bottom spring.

Don't you have an automatic tensioner? Mine just had to be released to tighten itself up then I just had to lock it down.

Heres what the book says:

Ch7 page 128

CAM CHAIN TENSION - ADJUSTMENT

31 With the engine idling, remove the rubber capa an loosen the cam chain tensioner adjusting bolt (don't loosen the smaller 6 mm bolt)
32 When the adjuster is loosened, the tensioner will automatically tenstion the chain properly.
33 Retighten the adjuster and install the rubber cap.
