    Painting exhaust

Yesterday i recieved the hooker exhaust for the little 70. it is new and you can tell it has been sitting on a shelf for awhile. So i really want to put a coat of paint on it before the tear down. What kind of paint should i use, what kind of prep, what temp would this pipe get too. i think it would look good in white. But i dont thin that it will work that well. Any suggestions or any pics of painted exhaust on an atc70

Dupli color high heat paint, get the 1000 degree kind. Then clear coat it with the high heat clear. Works good on my X engine so it should be fine with a 70.

I've redone a few exhausts already. the first pic is high gloss duplicolor. paint. came out pretty nice. the trick is to make sure you get all the rust off. I used a bench grinder with a wire wheel on it makes quick work of even the nastiest rust. I also wiped it down with acetone to get all the dust and stuff off before applying the first coat. then wait for it to dry completely before adding another. 2 or 3 coats does the trick.

The second and third pics is a before and after shots of the supertrapp I redid recently. This was was done with the high temp BBQ paint. this one is actually holding up quite well.

Thats what i meant, 1200. My engine dosent get that hot! So I just use that. But BBQ paint would work great also.

I used VHT 1200* header paint. Got it at O'Rielly and it's holding up nicely and looks great. I second the remove all rust part and my paint, silver, looked a little blotchy when I finished so I smoothed it with some 0000 steel wool and it evened the color and took away the blochyness. Chris
