Kill a Bike! Save a Trike!

Killing this bike to save my 84 Tecate. Woohoo........

84 KX250 for $300. Guy wrote on the receipt garanteed to run or money back. He seemed straight. Guess I'll find out.

Broken kick start. Hopefully from tons of compression. (Sweatin)
Intake boot is a bit dry rotted of course. Damn!
    PWK Carb though.
    A rear drum brake- WTF?
    Non greasy repair manual.
    Good pipes.
    Good lookin wiring.

And here's some airbox pics BigGreen.

Well I think I am stuck with it now. Check it:

1985 KXT 250 Tecate - kx cylinder, kx ignition, bassani headpipe, answer silencer, v-force reeds, 38mm airstyker carb, +2 franks swinger, raptor rear shock.

    1996 YSF240 Blaster - maxxed out!!!

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "HOLY SH-T, what a ride!"

Well fork caps are marred up bad from hack mechanic and when I undid the tie-downs it sounds like air was hissing out of the fork(s).

I hope to get it runnin and try to wear those pretty tires out.

No rear brakes either. Linkage busted?

T3 has no spark. Pipe was broken by previous owner and melted the wirin harness some. No spark. Have not tested anything.

    These are my winter projects.

I would put the kx motor in the t3, fix the kicker, use the kx carb, reeds, intake, get a nie boost for not much.

That was the vision I had when I saw the pictureless for sale ad.
I had to have it so I could fix my trike the lazy way.

I would put the kx back together and keep it too. Those were kick ass bikes. Classics.

Do I see a quad vent PWK Airstryker?

Looks like I was wrong about the exhaust, I don't think it will fit up on the T3 chassis but you could make it fit I'm sure.

Amazing deal, you scored some really sweet stuff. You'd pay close to 300 on egay for a good condition KX jug. Pretty cool how the KX motor is basicly identical to the KXT version.

I'd try and use that aluminum doglink on the T3 for weight savings over the steel piece.

Your 84 T3 looks complete, even has OEM rear fenders which are getting super rare. I bet if you Ebay'd the rear fenders, headlight/guard and the rear chain/disc guard you could offset the price of some new plastics and misc stuff.

I was looking at a yamaha blaster yesterday and the fenders would fit very nice IMO. MAier makes custom Blaster fenders that look like Raptor rear fenders and come in tons of colours.

You mean blast fenders actually fit on the T3's? :ike the 84 & 85 models?

I doubt they would bolt on dude but they look small enough to fit without having to use a new fender brace and would look pretty sweet if you used the "maier custom" fenders.

Better porting with the KX cylinder. The T3 is basicly a detuned KX to be trail/rider friendly.

I'd love to ride a KX jugged T3, or even better.. a nicely ported KX cylinder T3!

So a ported T3 cylinder would be just as good? Then why would people spend the $$ on the KX cylinders?

Nope, the KX has a different port design with dual exhaust ports. It makes more power then the T3 jug. I'm not sure if a ported T3 cylinder would be comparable but I'd put money on the KX cylinder being better.

A ported KX cylinder on a T3 bottom end would rip! Especially with the KX ignition and that PWK carb.

Nd4speed, IMO you'd be better off using the KXT bottom end for the strength of the T3 tranny. The T3 trans was designed to hold up to the extra traction afforded by the two rear tires.
