This may sound stupid but can someone tell me what the two clutches do on my big red? One is a centrifugal and the other is a manual type. What is the purpose of each? I know that the manual clutch is released during shifting.

wait 2 clutches??? from my knowledge the reds were automatic.... the left side, I THINK, is the rear brake and the reverse engage handle... correct me if i'm wrong though!
the inner clutch is for the motor/tranny-(inner depending on how you look at it),outer is for the drive-inner is engaged all the time ,the secondary is the "auto"it engages as tension is applied to the weight from the motor out put-- thus making it automatic
those motors and cases fit different models that was a easy was to make a all internal auto clutch i guess, and motor could be set up for a reg pull clutch with the right parts- i don't know why exactly --lol cheeper than redesigning?
- never tore one apart so i cant be positive on this - you know how fiche and books are - with out actually doing it![]()
Thanks jason32,I wanted to know that info too lol!!
Hey Davex, Where about are you in Halifax? Im just east of Dartmouth about 25 minutes. I have had reds apart and the auto clutch works like a chainsaw clutch except unlike most chain saws the clutch is wet. This enables you to stop and not stal. This is designed to close around idel speed 1000-1400 rpms. The other is the high speed clutch? Now as far as I know the clutch plates which are in all atvs and motocycles(except belt drive) This clutch opens and closes at high speeds.

Thanks for clearing that up for me............
I live in Enfield. I just bought two Honda Big Red 200ES trikes. I have one going to NF for my father. I just finished making it roadworthy. My trike has a hard shifting problem. I have the clutch cover and the spacer in under it off to check the shift shaft mechanism. Both clutches are removed along with the shifter.Spent two days scraping off gaskets. So far everything looks OK but I will replace some springs on the shift shaft before reassembly. Barring that, if the problem comes back I may have to look at the shift forks and drum. I could use any technical support that I can get.

What is it doing? Some of those automatic bikes never really shifted right. Always clunking in 1 gear anyway lol. Or all the autos ive ridden and owned.

go to whittier fun center and you can use the parts finder to see how they go together--
My Honda 200es is intermittently hard to shift and sometimes impossible to shift through the gears. It will happen a couple of times and then all of a sudden be ok for a while. When it happens I find that it is not gear specific as it is hard to shift into all gears. I have adjusted the clutch by backing of the slotted screw (CCW) untill I get resistance and then turning it in (CW) 1/4 turn. I am totally new to three wheelers. The shift lever feels sloppy but I don't know what a new one is like anyways. Its strange because this problem comes and goes. Its like something is stopping the shift lever. Need help on this.

The above was a cut and paste from another post just to explain the shifting problem.
