    250r axle

I'm restoring a 1986 250r (I'll e-mail pics to anyone that will post them) and I was wondering if anyone has succesfully swaped out the stock axle for a 400ex/350x/450r unit. The one that is on the bike is arrow straight, but its finish is sub-par.

Secondly, has anyone had any luck refinishing a stock axle with any type of plating?

Chrome is going to be the strongest, zinc wears off over time. Are you doing a restoration or a rebuild? Chrome is a little more expensive than zinc. If you plan to ride it I would go with chrome.

I had mine ceramic plated. It can be polished up. The only problem is that the pitting from the rust shows through. Still looks OK and saved me from having to buy a new +4 axel.
    Maybe not the best pic.
