    Talking Found a 81 R today!!!

I went to my ATV junkyard guys place to get a clutch cable for the KLT today and while drooling over all his stuff I spot a nice looking R sitting over by a shed he recently got!!
I asked what was wrong and how much ect..and of course it's more than what I have on hand but not out of reach?
He rebuilt it a while back for a guy and recently traded it back for a onroad bike,It ran good but needs the carb cleaned out from sitting for a year,a seat cover and back brakes, the trike is all there but with the usual plastic cracks ect..
I could sell the KLT and get it or make payments,Im scared of getting rid of one that runs good for one I dont know much about lol??
    Anyway,I might be getting a 250R

Other smaller or lesser known companies, such as Tiger ATV, Franks, and Cagiva, produced racing three wheelers, but in much smaller numbers. Few of these machines are known to exist today and are highly sought by collectors.

They usually go for around 500 or so on ebay for a pretty decent one. parts besides plastic and seat are pretty easy to get on there as well. The good thing about them is most everything is cheap for them.

Yeah, that's a tough call- one's a running 4 stroke Kawi, but the other's a...........(2 stroke) HONDA! Those 1st gen 'R' s are real cool, & 'rare'(on the trails, anyways, you NEVER see 'em) not too many folks hang on to 'em cuz they want the '85s & '86s, if you can swing it, get the 'R', man. You are only on this earth for a short while, & if you pass this rig up, you'll kick yourself for years. So what if you have to tighten your belt a bit, do yourself a favor and get it, even if you have to make payments! BTW, how much dinero we talking about for the 'R'?

I say you scored nicely. Afterall, it is the first 2 stroke high performance 3 wheeler ever made. I say you made out pretty good. Nice trike.

I found one in Kansas about 4 years ago (I moved there from UT for a year....then back ) at a bike shop stuffed in the back corner. It was MINT, and I got it for $700!

They look really good with some 400EX spindles in the rear with lo-pro tires.... Just don't build the motor as far as I did or it won't be any fun with the stock suspension (I still hurt!). If you can't leave it alone though I must say a 82-83 CR 480 reed cage, reed valves, and big carb REALLY complements a port and polish.....Have fun you definatly scored huge!

nice find, looks like its got potential. from the looks of it its an 82 model. has ventalated front brake disk and has air scoops in front of the tank. if it has a rear disk brake its definatly an 82 model. still a great bike, i love mine.

Yep,rear disk brakes,I didnt think to look at the vin# either,I asked if it was a 81 and he didnt say no so I just assumed it was??
Glad I got a good deal I really never thought of getting a R but from what Ive read in past posts it will do everything I want and more.
I like the later model R's ect.. but am not into racing so it would be a waste on me lol!
Im more a trail and messing around kinda rider so it should be perfect!!!
Thanks for the replys and info!!!

Nice find man! I always liked the look of the 1st generation 250Rs, hope to find one for myself some day. If your new to an aircooled 2 stroke like I was, here is just a quick no brainer tip that might be helpful. If you take it through deep or thick mud, just make sure to clean the fins off if they get really caked. Those are your cooling, so you want them to be as clean as possible. Again, good deal!
