does anyone know if there is a difference between a xr350, and a atc350x engine?

yes
the 350xr motor sucks compared to the 350x
80s......185 atc, Yamaha tri-moto 200, 85 200x with tons of work
90s......89 Suzuki quad racer 250 (raced 250 A class for 6 years, late 90s.. custom framed 250x with long travel shocks and a built 350x motor.... built Honda 110
00s...... chomeoly framed 350 RX with all the goodies (thanks to my bro)
2012.....Replaced the 350x motor for a 444cc YZ426

i have/had both...
i thought the xr350r motor made more power. hence the people wanting to swap XR cams into their 350x
you might be right stock vs stock
i read some ware that when building a race motor the 350x has more potential then even the xr500 head on a 350x

Got any pics of the motor?

Currently trikeless
I do not have any pics of the xr engine edog, but they look very similar with the exception of the heads. The xr head has 4 letters on it that the x engine does not have. I did find some pics of the xr engine by doing a yahoo image search.

The XR you speak of is the RFVC engine. A very stout radial valved engine. As far as the head, totally different from the ATC engine and nothing will interchange.
I know this is an old thread, but it got me wondering if an XR 350 motor would swap onto one of the 200 ATC frames? Would it be worth the hassle & how much performance could I wring out of it?
it wont, its way to large and they had dual carbs so there is no room. a 185 motor will slip in no prob.
Easy enough answer, thanks! One more question though. Why would you want to put a smaller motor in? Did the 185 have more power? Not that I own an ATC yet, just puttin' some new knowledge in the old attic.
185 motor made more hp then then 200 motor form what i remeber. the 200 has 25 tires and was larger, the 185 was smaller with 22" tires, all in all its the same motor with 15cc less on top end. i had a 185 motor in my autox that was bored to about 215 from what i figured out with all the overbores.
Are we talking about a 200X? Not that is impossible, but, I doubt very much the 185 had 18 h.p. (stock) The latter 200x had 19. That's as much h.p. as the Honda 300EX engine, without the weight.
I hope you guys were talking about a 200X motor. If not, well, sorry...
TORKER.
THOSE WHO SAY IT CANNOT BE DONE, SHOULD NOT GET IN THE WAY OF THOSE BUSY DOING IT...
talking about atc200 motors and atc185 motors, not 200x motors.
Wow! So I take it that the 185 either had more compression, a bigger cam, a better head, or a combination of the three to get more power from less cc right?
LOL. I'm taking this thread off topic now, but are there any charts or info on all of the ATC specs like power, weight, & dimensions? I've seen a few advertisements & such, but no specs. Surely something's out there if the info is available for Yamaha 3 wheelers. I'm still looking around here to find out as much info as possible, but there's so many variations in just the 200cc trikes, not to mention the 70, 90, 110, 125, 185, 250, & 350 stuff!
