    Question I have atc70 questions.

    1. How the hell do i get the drum off my 85 atc70 in a manual i borrowed from a friend it said there should be a nut on the axle, but i see a ring that seems to be part of the axle. please teach me...lol

    2. Also i keep hearing about suspended 70's, did honda produce these or does everyone fab up the rear swingarms and forks.

    3. Does anyone elses atc70 make a weird kinda grinding noise when moving and especially when u let off the gas at a low rpm? I thought it was inside the pull start assembly but i lubricated the 3 retracting fingers inside the recoil. I dunno maybe i killed the little trike.

    4. Whats a double post. Is that when guys like me put too many questions in a thread. I dont get it.

    5. AM i stoned?

I would appreciate some information from anyone who can help.

evan, the nut that holds the hubs to the axle must be removed on both sides of the axle. By doing this you should be able to remove both hubs with the wheels and tires still bolted to them. Once the hubs are removed, then there will be 2 spacing tubes, one on each side of the axle, those should just slide off. once you do that, loosen up the adjuster for the rear brakes where the brake cable operates the rear brakes. You will have to remove the rear brake drum next. Once the rear brake drum is off, you should be able to slide the axle out. Then you should be able to remove the rear bearings. You may have to take a piece of sand paper and remove any rust that is in where the rear bearings sit so it will be a little easier to reinstall the bearins, but don't sand away too much, you want the bearings to go into place snugly.
Also, suspension 70s were aftermarket frames with dirtbike front forks and a single shock on the rear singarm, I'll post a pic of mine.
That grinding noise may be the chain or the tensioner for the chain, but you said you need rear bearings, which will make noise also. Don't forget to check the front wheel bearings too. Have fun with your 70, you will have alot of options to hot rod it out if you want. And welcome to the boards, alot of good people and info on here.

Great post Vealmonkey. It was very informative and thorough. I'm waiting on an elusive, discontinued, non stocked, oddly shaped o-ring for my carb which requires me to drive an hour tomorow to get from a honda dealer that does have a website but does not do shipping of any kind. Once i have obtained this i will convince a friend with a heated garage who has a soft spot for pilsner to let me come back to do a mechanical inspection and repairs. I love the cosmetic and performance improvements but unfortunately everything comes in threes and i now have to face a few mechanical issues as well. 2 words- worth it !!!

The machine with the black frame in the second pic looks huge with those tall forks, angled rear shock, low pro tires and cargo rack. It's so much fun being the only trike and running the 50's off the trail and such. Also being able to sit on it while relaxing with a cold one at the end of the ride. ( On privately owned land. )

My brother is determined to turn a kx 80 into a 3wheeler one day. I think its a great idea, gona have to take a trip to the nearest remaining boneyard to scrounge.
