need to know year and type of motor (yamaha ytm 225 ) by the number off motor??

I was interested in buying a motor and putting it in my 1984 225dx and I belive it is a 225 dx motor and it might have reverse drive on the motor. The number on the motor is 1AV 002974 the number on the fork tube was JY31NV009GC002974, also on label YAM29U 0023. Any help in identifying this motor would be appriciated. I am really interested if it is the motor that has reverse and will fit in my 84. Thanks Glenn O.

From the vin you posted, it looks like a 1986 225drs. Although, the engine number should start with 1NV instead of 1AV. Any chance you mis-read it? This information is from my Clymer manual on CD. Hope it helps.

I put a 225 Reverse motor in my wife's 1984 225DX. Everything works fine, just don't have the reverse light on the dash. The drive shaft is different, but doesn't appear to cause any operational problems.

My motor was a 1EV I thought... I'll have to peek at it sometime.

1EV is also correct. Just a different year. The engine number should match the frame number.
