    kx cylinder questions...

i have an 84 kx cylinder i just recently got, and have a few questions...
first off, arent the 83-84 kx cylinders nikasiled? this one isnt, it is cross hatch honed, and it does not look to have a sleeve in it. now is it possible to have the cylinder repaired and re nicked? or should i just get a sleeve and have it sleeved? also the exhaust port bridge has a tiny tiny tiny hair line crack, very small almost un noticeable. is this something that can be fixxed as well, and what would happen if i wasnt to do anything about it? i am trying to get some pics, but my camera is sucking when i try to get a nice close up.

I would sleeve it. I wouldnt run it with a cracked bridge. Maybe have it repaired while away for sleeving.

I'd get in touch with Corey Sprock and have his Nic guy do the bridge repair and re-Nikisel the cylinder for you.

Call US CHROME. ( 1-920-922-5066) They can repair just about anything thats wrong with a cylinder. I have 3 kx cylinders and they are all a bit diffrent in the bridge area. What you are seeing is the parting line when the cylinder was cast in the sand mold. Some lines are more pronounced than others. And t-3 lopes has one that looks as though its almost completely saparated. It's been this way since it was new, but looks sketchy to say the least. It definately needs some sort of correction work done in that area. Especially when you consider that this area of the cylinder runs the hottest and the bridge is a small line of metal in constant contact with fire! It will expand at a faster rate than any other part of the cylinder and can cause the piston to sieze and or scuff. Especially when there are basically two halves of the bridge due to poor casting techinques. And remember to always drill 2-3 small holes in the piston where it passes over the bridge to allow oil to get between the piston and cylinder to reduce the risk of siesure. This is a trick that all liquid R models have used forever. They to have a bridge that expands and changes tolerence in that area. But ive never seen them have as poor as castings. And do the right thing and have it re-nicked if at all possible. Good luck

Call CWR at 717 837 1907, ask for Greg and ask him about a T3 bottom end rebuild.

Thats who does all Sprocks motor work/rebuilds now. I had them port a T3 cylinder and just got a set of brake rotors from him. Great guy.

I still build some engines, but mostly projects that spark my interests...Greg @CWR sells my engine kits and assembles them for his customers, but I still build my own. I would send your bottomend to Greg @ CWR.
