Make sure all the bolts are out! Make sure it's not up against the frame rail or foot peg.
Probably just stuck on there. Tap all the way around with a PLASTIC. Look for small ears on the cover that with a long punch, can be tapped on from the opposite side to work the cover off. Don't use screwdrivers or you'll have a leak later on.

im not familiar with the yamahas but one time i forgot to take the dipstick out and on the 250es, it goes in behind the cluch so it held the cover on. Also check the bolts, and make sure its not hitting anything like frame, foot pegs... It that all looks free, its probebly just stuck on the locating dowls and you should try to tap it off as dirtcrasher said.

It was stuck on the locating dowels. rusted. Thanks guys!
But I have a bigger problem.
when I turned out all of the clutch cover screws, two of them stripped out badly. easy out didnt work. so I drilled them out so I could get them out with vice grips after I removed the cover. one of them turned out, one of them (a through to the case one) sheared off at the threads.
do I now have to remove the other part of the case and try another screw extractor or?
any advice? any tricks?
thanks!!!
