The only difference I know of Is the top motor mount bolts are bigger. I'm sure their are more differences that others will know of.

No.... there are actually 3 or more different "shipments" of frames. 85's are basically all the same. 86 had 2 large "batches".Originally Posted by dizasterzrfun69
Major difference is in the added gossets to strengthen the frames on the 86. Also, up front the 85 has places on the downpipe to hold the clutch cable. The rear mounting for the grab bar over by muffler is different too. One has a post/T thing to help support the muffler.

well if i wanted to take everything off of my 85 and put it on an 86 could i do this with just the frame or would i need other 86 parts? my 85 frame is really really rough.

Yeah I have used an '85 motor in an '86 frame and actually am working on another..Some differences like stated above with the top mounts ... Clutch cable ...and grabbar,easy enough to get through!!! 3 batches or more of frames ahe'?? Were any of the '85 all gusseted up ,or just the '86's !! I never have luck with the '85's !!!

I thought someone posted the 86 frames to be a different steel. Sounds crazy but I thought I read that...
I wonder why the 200X got a nice square frame and nothing for the 350X....
Probably because they were gonna stop making the 350X and start on the 500X!!
