whats the story with all the 70s out there with out recoils?if i had about 100 of them i could sell them on ebay and almost retire? where did they all go? do they break? i think someone should try to reproduce them it seems like there is a high demand for them

The housing where the dawgs fit get whipped out and they just fly apart after that, rebuild kits don't even help!! Thats why there are so pricey!!!

everyone breaks the rope , pulls it off, can't figure out how to put it back together after the spring flys across the shop, and puts it in a corner and forgets about it, or drops off at a shop or friend and never picks it up. My theory. When I worked at the dealership, we always had people coming in with them in a box for use to reassembly, some times they wouldn't pick them up after finding out the price for a complete rebuild, but most of them just get removed to be fixed some day and lost. 70 can be easily pushstarted so they do not bother to fix them.

I've seen em go anywhere from $10-$50 depending on the model and year of the trike. But I'd say average is in the $30+ range. You can install a new rope easy enough and even use the old one if theres enough left. When your spring goes shootin accross the room your in trouble. Dont pay anyone to put it back in. You can do it yourself, but takes broken fingers and about half hour to get it back in.
Dont try to wind the whole thing at once. Wind the center of the spring as tight as you can by hand, then put it back inside the housing and use the indented area the spring sits in to help keep it winded while you work your way around pushing the rest back in. The best thing to do would to not let the spring fly out in the first place. Itd save ya a world of hurt.
    N E ways, good luck.

When putting the spring back in I start from the outside by placing the spring in the housing the way it sits normallly and push each coil in in a rotating fashion one coil at at time with my thumbs, about 5 min.
