For those of you that never unscrewed a fuel petcock off tank.

Here is a pretty typical Honda one. Sometimes that plastic filter tube stays stuck in the tank neck where petcock threads on and other times it comes out staying on the petcock itself.

Note also that the oring that goes at very bottom of the filter. You only snug the petcock assembly down because of that oring, no need to crank on it like crazy.

Last time I bought one of those filters they were 13 bucks, so they are not cheap!

The tube has two filters, that is how your reserve works, once gas gets below the top one gas will no longer be delivered till you switch to reserve, then it sucks it through the bottom one!

My R will only run when the petcock is on reserve. Would that mean the top filter is dirty and fuel can only get through the bottom/reserve one?

    Good conclusion Watson!

Either that or that brass pick up tube is clogged. My reserve filter was really gunked up, I was surprised!

I at least think that's how they work. The brass tube is just for normal then the reserve sucks through a section right on the base of petcock where filter tube sits on.

Check yours out, let me know!

This would be where the reserve sucks it through, at the 1/4 moon type hole there.

So when the tubes stuck inside, How do you get it out without damaging it? On my SX it's stuck and I have already damaged it some.

It's not easy! Mine was too, hence why I paid 13 bucks for a new one.

I got mine out with a needle nose pliers but that is not what ruined it, mine was just a complete mess and torn. You really could get by without one but I like the fuel being filtered as much as possible.

You could actually have it filtered 3 times before it gets to carb..........that one, the filter in petcock bowl and install a in-line one too. Some models the line between carb and petcock is not long enough to let you do so, I think on the SX a narrow type of inline will work no problem though.

Try sprayin D-40 in it to loosen it up some, might help? Maybe carb cleaner too?

Yea but then they are just floating around in the tank then and eventually will gather right back at the screen. I'd rather pull the thing out and do it right. You can flush the tank easier too with them out.
