    200x Running Rich

Ok, here's the deal. I've got a '84 200x that has been running rich, no matter what I do to it. I've even bought a new carb from someone who had it on their '83-85 200x and was running perfect with it on. I have a COBRA full system exhaust and a K&N filter, so I raised the main jet from a stock 108, to a 112. I bought it from a guy who had the Pipe and Filter put on, but didn't change the jet. The bike would run pretty well, except it wouldn't idle for more than 10 seconds before it died off. So 2 months and $50 later, I have a bike that runs rich after a few minutes. Should I back off the main jet to a stock 108? Any ideas? I would really appreciate the help because I've tried, but can't do this on my own.

No, not yet, haven't had time to, but that sounds exactly like what it is. Except one thing. It's running rich. Lowering the needle clip would raise the needle allowing more fuel in to make it run richer. I need to do the opposite and raised the needle allowing less fuel in, leaning it out. Great idea though, can't wait to try it!

did you make any other adjustments to the carb, or just change the main jet? if you just changed the main jet try the needle clip position like traxxasx said. there are some other adjustments that could be made also...pilot jet, air screw. I also don't think anyone is saying to go riding your x without an airfilter, clean the inside of the airbox of dirt/dust, then remove the filter and run it in the garage.

    hopes this helps

If you swapped out carbs ,that should eliminate the carb adjustments as far as being too rich, unless you are at high altitude and the carbs are jetted for sea level.Just look in the manual for stock setting and jet sizes and set it to that.It should be a little lean at stock settings with the free flowing filter and exhaust. If its still rich it has to be that air filter plugged.

Blowing off a k an n wont clean it its just blows off the loose dust. The dirt sticks to the oil, thats why its there. That is why they make a kit with solvent to clean it and reoil.Try running it with no air filter on it.Just sitting there it wont hurt it a bit.If it runs alot better and maybe a little lean you know the k and n is plugged up.I have had them plug so bad my bike would barely run.
