    What a crappy/don't care for nothing - tire change job I got and paid for!

    I WISH I had taken pictures of both gold aluminum wheels before I took them to have the worn tires taken off and others put on, OH how I wish I had the PROOF!

    I took them to a local auto/tire place and simply asked the manager "DO YOU CHANGE ATV TIRES" ? Oh yea sure, bring em on in.

    So instead of being my usual self and asking the guy (giving him the 3rd degree) on what method they use, do they do ATV tires often, any possibility of damaging my wheels and so on I just take his word for it and drop them off.

    BIG MISTAKE, I should of been my USUAL SELF and asked the guy all these things! I come to pick them up and I KNOW, JUST KNOW that the wheel egdes did not have as many gouges in as when I dropped them off! You could tell they were fresh because the gouges were not the least bit (I forget the exact term) cloudy from air hitting them for years.

    I ask the guy, WHO WORKED ON THESE ? OH, He's out to lunch Got to tell ya, that seems to happen to me a lot, having a complaint and the guy just so happens to be "out to lunch"

    Anyway I find out that they do it by hand and not machine and the guy tells me NO other way to do it sir, no machine exists to work on these offset wheels like this ...........and that excuses you for banging up my wheels ? .............and geees, that's odd, the other place that I watch them do it thru a glass window does it (tire removal) in minutes on a machine so don't tell me this is the only way and since this IS your method (by hand) you should stick to car tires and should have sent me on my way.

    I could go on even more about how they could not even find a low pressure tire guage to adjust the air proper and a few other things, but I won't and am sure you get what I'm letting you all know.............to ALWAYS, don't feel bad to ask as many questions as possible and BE suspsious of the work untile you are satisfied that the work will be done proper.

    It's sad that I run into this more and more in this day and age, that you have to ask,ask, ask, ask & ask instead of simply drop off and trust that the work be done right.

    My wheels are still plenty acceptable and I can't possibly *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* any more to them unless I had the proof. I did all this to help the small buissness owner out and this is what I get !

    Hope I helped someone out that gets any type of work done in the future and if you don't have a camera for wheels, simply show (tape off maybe) the owner/manger exactly what damage/marks are on before work is done to them and have it stated on the bill.

    Here is the butcher job they did .............. The one picture is the same twice and I think I can bend back out and touch up a bit.

    Anyone know a good method to bend back out and what type of paint matches these?

    You really don't see it much at all when looking at the overall wheel but I'd like to straighten it out as much as possible, if there is a way that is?

    The overall pic is of the better wheel, I guess the guy got more accurate (must had been the 2nd one he worked on) at pounding with the sledge or something!

    they should be done by hand with tire iron's,,,,, machines just f.. them up even worse! i done millions of them.. I use plastic rim protector's for the tire bars mostly on motorcycle tires cuz there allways a *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*.. ive done atv tires enough i can do it with out markin the rims..
    Just did a new set today not even a mark on them... sorry about your luck.

    Where did ya go monroe muffler or billy bobs tire shack? next time take it to a cycle shop where they know the proper way.

    i have a big coats tire machine like the shops have. you can dismount the tires but cant pop the beads unless you have the expensive rim clamp type.

    to dismount them you need the type with the center post that spins. even those type will scratch the rims since the metal bar turns against the rim.

    huffa it sucks but it happens likt that no matter what way you do it since atv rims are so flimsy. they would have scratched the gold off them with a machine.

    I have a bead breaker, it works perfect. Spend the $70 for it and say good-bye for anybody changing your tires. The hardest part is getting the bead un-broken from the rim, the rest is easy, get 16" long tire irons from motion pro(3), bead breaker, total will be about $100. After your first 2 its, easy to change tires.

    The place I usually go to, DOES use a machine, I never had any problem with them screwing them up.

    Bryan, How do you break the bead on them, doing them by hand, seems impossible to me? I did them myself already by running them over (3WW member recommendation) with my vehicle and it worked fine but didn't feel like dicking (takes a good 5 minutes per wheel) with them in that manner.

    I was absolutely terrified when I left my 86 TRX gold rims at "Kellys Tire". I was honestly more scared that in order to seat the bead on my new Turf Tamers that they would overinflate them. I forgot about how rare my perfect mint rims were and didnt crap my drawers until I got halfway home.

    I never saw them mount them or seat the beads but all went well without a problem. They charged my 25$ to mount my new tires and that in itself pissed me off but looking back it wasn't so bad. They definately did my tires on their machine.

    Some of these parts are so rare that pictures and alot more questions are in order when left with someone for work.

    Ther cycle shops around my way rake you too much but I do see your point Bryan. Like said though, the guy should have steered me on my way if he did not think they could do the job with out damage. It was a place that has been in buissness for years and years.

    YEA, that's what the other place uses on mine and they never marked mine up. Maybe they had some plastic protector on it, I just can't recall though.

    Glad to se you had good luck! 25 bucks...........that's the going rate now a days, I would say.

    I use this style hand break its a snapon modified a little and beefed up to really crank on it.. can ya see it in the pic? thats the best one i got

    I got it from JL ATV, it is adjsutable from 8"-12" rims. Deflate the tire, push the long end under one of the tired between the bead, step on it, do the same to the other end, there is two long handles, push on the bottom hand and push on the top handle, the tire will pop off, do this to more parts of the tires(about 5) and then repeat for the other side. The tires to get off and put on requires you see someone doing in order to ge the hang of what to do. A good write-up with pictures can illistarate this better.

    This is the style i use... I dont see the one i got in snap-on but the snap-on one has more adjustment up and down for wider rims..might be discontinued.

    That sucks. Regardless of what tools or techniques that were used, they key to sucess in this case is experience and patience. I worked in a tire shop for well over a year, and know what kind of pressure workers in these shops deal with. Work is expected to be completed at a rapid pace, and the proper instruction isn't always available. Someone taught themselves how to do an atv dismount/mount at your expense. The stores manager is to blame for this mishap, he never should have allowed a person without the necessary skill or care even touch your wheels. Wheels and tires get ruined often in these shops, its a shame that this lesson was learned on items that are not easily replaced. I would get a refund for the price of the work at the very least.
