Kick and electric start just spins?????

Hello

Well big red has no kick start, with a bad one way clutch.
But the electric start was still working good.
Now the electric start just spins too.
I turned the started gear by hand and the flywheel just turns freely

What would be the cause of this? What part am I after?

If the one-way clutch is bad, then there is a good chance you have trashed your starter and 1st reduction gear. Pull the little cover off and inspect the starter splines and the reduction gear. The cover only has 4 bolts holding it on, so it's a easy check.

If you do a search of the 3WW forums you will find many postings about what causes this.

Yep I inspected all the starter gears first and they are good. They turn the flywheel freely.
search reveals minimum rez.

that means both one way clutch sprags are shot.....expensive fix.....worse if u wait! it will cost around 200 dollars to fix give or take a little

There is another one way clutch in the flywheel mechanism - have you checked it?. I imagine it allows the starter to drive in one direction and free wheel in the other. ATC starters don't drive out like an aoutomobile. They are always meshed but the one way clutch keeps the drive going in one way only.

I didn't know each one had it's own one way.
I will check it out. I have the original moter all apart on the bench so I can look at that one and find whats busted. I found the one way clutch which works on the other motor. Turns one way
Which one works with the kickstart and where to find the other one.

Do you think I should pull the motor to do this fix? Do I have to split the block?

well the one way clutch by the clutch assembly is 71.62 at servicehonda

Did you check too see if the woodruff key got stripped out on the crank!! Been there before!!
