    began teardown on the 86 t3...updated 7/20/07

weather was nice so i spent sometime out in the garage today. worked on my blaster and had a fumble on that project, broke a balljoint, not even 15 minutes on the new bigbore kit. got to looking at the 85 t3 and rolled her out to get a shot in the sun, then decided to start disassembling the 86 t3 to begin the resto on it. decided i am gonna go with the same color scheme as my 85, i like the look. was very suprised after i cleaned it up and degreased and decowshitted it, yeah she got alot of surface rust, but it will be sandblasted. i soaked every nut and bolt on it with liquid wrench and only broke 2 under the front fender, got all the rest cracked and loosened no problem. so far i have the front end of it, and tomorrow temperature permitting, i will get the rearswinger and suspension off it so i can get it to my father inlaw to sand blast it for me. heres a few pics, will post up progress pics as i go. gonna take my time, gonna be a long process, lol, hope it goes a bit fast then the 85 though. enjoy...

had to throw in the 85 just for the heck of it and give you a clue as to the color scheme.

    well, its apart...

well got bored sitting around. went back out to the garage and began twisting the wrenches again, and in no time flat had it totally disassembled. now, frames off to get sandblasted, along with whatever other parts i need to get done at this stage for paint. going with the white frame and triples...same as the 85. i will begin cleaning the rest up, but its going to be a time consumer. very dirty and greasy, lots of rusted parts. gonna order up a new bolt kit for it, etc... heres what tonights progress looks like...

The color scheme on your '85 is sweet. The same on the '86 would be sweet as well.

still waiting for the father in law to sandblast the frame. ugh, but while i was bored and had nothing better to do i got the front triple trees done. the hubs ready to go as well, just need to clean up the lower fork tubes somehow, wether i polish them up, or paint them, not sure yet. thinking going with the polished look. anyways, only got a shot of the triples for now, will post up some more when i get more done. damn frame, gonna be forever....

    update....got bored.

well the weather was nice today, i got it off from work, so i decided to do some work in the garage. was gong to work on my blaster a bit, but ended up tinkering with the 86 t3. well i got the first coat of white on the frame...going with probably one or two more coats.

then i decided to paint the tank...lots of prep work, time and effort into this one. i like the end results. i know the colors a tad bit darker then the kawi green but ohwell. if it bothers me that much once i am done i will slap a tank cover on it. maico, thanks alot for the tank man.

i have the radiator shrouds and headlight cover on the way, shout out to justin at hornet powersports for them, i have heard nothing but good things about your reproductions, cant wait to get them. i also go tthe triple trees ready to go on.

i got a seat cover in today i got off ebay, waste of money and time. thing was way to small for the 86 style seat. i am thinking it is more the 84-85 style seat cover. bummed on that. guess its time to get a nice custom one thru verde, he he he. also yesterday the airbox arrived in the mail. gary, the thing is in excellent shape. once i finish cleaning it up, it will look practically new.

i also got the front hub and rotor painted up, and polished up the front rim. not bad shape for 86 oem rims. tires are dry rotted, so i will eventually be getting new ones all the way around, i think hoosiers or american racers on the back, not sure yet what front.

well for now thats all i got. as soon as i get another coat of paint on it, and it drys, i cant wait to start putting peices back together. its gonna look sweet when done. i am gonna be leaving for florida here in a few weeks so thats consuming all my funds for right now, but as soon as i get back, i will be ordering up the rest of the cosmetics.
aussie if you get this post, when are you gonna be doing up the ufo replica nymber plate for the 86-87 ? gonna be wanting one of them. and will be ordering one of your airbox covers shortly. anyways, i will keep yahs posted with updates.

    progress...

well i got the final coats of paint on the frame today. cleaned up the airbox. mounted the tank, and triples, and radiators. just mock up for now. think its coming together quite nicely. my shrouds didnt come in today, so i guess i have to wait till monday, bummer. kinda sucks. got the rear end apart on it today as well. at least the swinger and carrier seperated, and wheels off. cleaned the shock up nice, gonna need to send it out and get it rebuilt and charged. anyways, thats all for now. more to come as it progresses.

Its starting to come along and looks good, how can you go so long from the time you take it apart til puting everything back on and know where things go? I bought a different frame in order to keep everything in line and know what was what. I can bet i'd forget after a week or so and have pieces left over...
