    Question about parting out trikes

I am just curious. I see all of these mint trikes on Ebay all of the time that are being parted out. It is sad to see them get dismantled like that. But do the sellers really make more money parting it out? Clean trikes bring high dollars on Ebay, I would thnk it would not be worth the trouble to dismantle it. And I would think you would get more for it whole. Now a junker is a different case. I have a pretty clean 87 Big Red that I will probably never sell in my life, but if I ever needed to, I wouldn't think of parting it. Seems like I'd get more as a complete clean trike.

some people can't sell their trikes due to area and people don't like to ship trikes.. so they part them out, they can ship the parts easily, and they still get a fair amount of money out of them.. but they end up with small misc. parts that they will probably never get rid of... but if people didn't part them out, we would never have parts...

I think it used to be far more profitable to part them than sell them whole. But in the last 12 months, prices for nice complete trikes have gone up substantially. I don't think the difference is quite as great as it used to be.

I hate seeing nice machines parted out. But I also like to buy nice parts. It just makes the existing bikes nicer, and more rare...

In some cases, the sellers make a lot more off parting. Like the 350x for example, there have been very high prices on mint parts in the recent months. I saw a set of rear fenders go for aroung $2400. If he got that for just the rear fenders, then parting was the way to make the most money.
