    Please Answer Tecate Questions!!!!

WHAT KIND OF OIL SHOULD I PUT IN THE CASE? 85W OR 10-40. WHAT RATIO DO I MIX THE FUEL 40 TO 1? AND WHAT OTHER YEAR REAR MASTER CYLINDERS WILL FIT ON A 1984. I BOUGHT A REBUILD KIT FOR AN 84 BUT THE OLD OWNER CHANGED IT OUT WITH ANOTHER YEAR SO MY KIT IS WRONG. I JUST ORDERED A MANUAL BUT I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS BIKE OUT AND RUNNING SO ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. ALSO LOOKING FOR A RED FENDER IN GOOD SHAPE AND A MASTER CYLINDER AND REAR SKID PLATE. DROP ME A NOTE AT D.CRONE@MSN.COM THANKS

I use 10-W40 Syn. in the bike and I run 70:1 oil to gas. I have a manual on my 84 and it also shows the 85 rear master cyl on it. I'm just not sure what years and how many differant kinds of master cyl they used.

I TRIED A TIP THAT SOMEONE LEFT ON HERE ON HONING THE CYLINDER AND THEN DIPING THE PISTON IN PAINT THINNER AND I'M BACK IN BUSSINESS, 70 TO 1 ARE YOU SURE I'VE HAD PEOPLE TELL ME ANYWHERE FROM 32 TO 1 TO 50 TO ONE. AT 32 TO 1 I DEFINITLY FOUL PLUGS, 50 TO ONE RAN GOOD BUT I NEED TO FIND OUT EHATS A GOOD RATIO, THANKS

    70:1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    that's getting pretty damn lean.

The service manuals say 10w40 is fine for the tranny. I don't know if I'd run synthetic oil in the tranny because I've heard it causes clutch slippage.

For the pre-mix, the manuals recommend 20:1, which is what I would run if I was running cheap 2 cycle oil, like out board or chainsaw oil.. :-D . but thats way too rich for good synthetic racing oils. In my Tecates and Tri-Z I run BelRay MC1 or H1R, usually at 32:1, but have ran it as lean as 50:1 as several people on this board do. That's what BelRay recommends on the bottle. 1 bottle to 5 gallons of gas which makes 50:1.

One other thing. If you honed a stock Tecate cylinder, you probably have ruined it. It may run fine now, but it may not last. The stock cylinders are plated, or "electrofused" as they call it. Now if the cylinder has been bored out and replaced with an iron sleeve, it's no problem.

As for the master cylinder, since you have a rebuild kit now, the best thing to do is hunt up an 84 master cylinder and fix it right. Theres no telling what's on your machine.

Yeah 70:1 sounds crazy but it works for some of the guys here. Personaly I only use Klotz Super Techniplate at 50:1.
